And whom should he be a backup to?

Exactly! Hey, I love Strief, 7th round pick, worked his arse off to become a really good right tackle in this league...

Drew is one of the fewest sacked/knocked down quarterbacks in this league, Thanks in part to Zach Strief...

The San Fran player y'all are trying to recollect is Ahmad Brooks - and he's been one of the best, and at times the best, SAM (Strongside) Linebacker in the league...

You can count the games on one hand, maybe two over his career, that Strief's had a bad game; sure they were big games where the challenger's talent is much better...

Is Strief getting old, slower and could use an upgrade - probably, sure...but WHO ARE YOU GOING TO REPLACE HIM WITH?!?

Training camp is coming and plenty of young bucks, including Peat, will have ample opportunity to wrest the right tackle job away from Strief...

But y'all remember this - Zach Strief is a warrior, he's never been a quitter, and he's not going to roll out the carpet for another player just because he's younger...

Someone is going to have to step up and win that job...
jnormand and K Major like this.

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

Peat! Peat! Peat! And anyone else. Warm the bench. That's where Streif belongs.

Just by looking at the current roster/depth chart, I think Peat will end up at RT. Don't discount changes in coaches (Roushar) & scheme. Again, no one has beat out Zach.

Training camp will tell the story.

Nonie, Peat couldn't win the job last year; what happens if Peat can't outplay Strief again?

Charles brown had a string of bad games, he was then benched in favour of someone who couldn't get into the Lineman Stance at the beginning of the season - Terron Armstead

Now whilst Strief hasn't had a string of bad games, every time he has a bad outing Brees ends up getting injured.

He probably won't be cut, but in my opinion he's a couple plays away from being benched in favour of Peat.

So just to be clear, you think the O-line of:

Armstead
Kelemete
Unger
Lelito
Peat

is better than the current proposed starting 5:

Armstead
Kelemete/Lelito
Unger
Peat
Strief

I never said either variation was better, but regardless of which ones better I think Strief is a couple hits on Brees away from riding the pine.

And why do you think it is Brees takes tough licks from Strief's side?

...Because edge defenders rarerly get around the behemoth before Brees has delivered a pass...It's rare...

Look, we could always use a more athletic right tackle in the screen and run game, but consider this before throwing him on the trash heap...

  • Ten Years Experience...

  • Rated Top 5 Right Tackle...

  • Very Cap Friendly Number...

  • Leader in the Locker Room...

  • Seventh Round Draft Pick...

  • Publically Stated He's Not Giving Away His Job...

Re: 5 Saints Players Who Should Be Cut By Week 1

All I know is that we had THREE tackles hurt last year. Three. Plus with no guaranteed starter at either guard spot, we may still need Peat on the interior.

No need to rush Zach out the door just yet.
