My guess is that he's veteran insurance against injury.

Let him learn our system, develop some chemistry with Brees, and if we suffer a few injuries at WR call him in.

I can't see him being a legit #4 or #5 WR since those guys are usually young pups who play special teams very well.

My suspicion is he's an option if Coleman regresses.

No. Payton is starting to play with receivers like he does his kickers. This signing makes no sense for starter reasons. And as someone said he's no leader. Everyone is relying on Drew making him better than he really is.

I've always liked him. He had a couple of really good seasons with the Giants. He fell off after that but a QB like Brees and a coach like Payton may be just what he needs. This could turn out to be a good signing.
