Game Day - Preseason Week 1: New Orleans Saints @ New England Patriots
 

The New Orleans Saints open the 2016 NFL preseason Thursday night against the New England Patriots. The Saints have participated in joint practices with the Patriots the last two days in Foxborough, Mass.

Drew Brees told the media Wednesday that he would play "a series or so" in the preseason opener, which is typical.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo is reporting that the Patriots plan to sit Tom Brady and let backup Jimmy Garoppolo get first-team reps against the Saints.

Garafolo tweeted: "That's been the plan for first half of the week. These things can change late, as they did for Pats' opener in (2015)."

I'd also like to see some of the rookie wide receivers...

But the real show will be P.J. Williams, De'Vante Harris and Ken Crawley...

I'm interested to see if the huge upgrade in interior pass rush talent will translate to better pressure from the outside from Cam Jordan and whoever is on his opposite side; whether that be Edebali, Gwacham, or Tull. I really want Gwacham to shine. He's so fast. We need that kind of speed on the field.

I'm also intrigued to see Stephone Anthony at SLB. Maybe he'll make up for the "possible" lack of pass rush from our DE's. I'd love to see him wreak havoc on opposing QB's all year. Perhaps he can be like a Khalil Mack in our system. And I'd love for Craig Robertson to beat out James Laurinaitis for the MLB position. Better athlete.

I'll never forget how we looked in the preseason when we won the Super Bowl. I'm always looking to see that spark. That's how I know if we'll really contend or not. So tonight, that's the main thing I'm looking for. I'm looking to see Brees score effortlessly on his one and only drive of the night...and I'm looking to see a relentless attack and energy from the first team defense. If those two things happen, I know how the rest of the season will turn out...10-6 will be our floor. If they don't happen, pessimistic won't be the word to describe me in regards to our future.
