I go after the Cowboy G with Vaccarro as trade bait. Harper and Harris can hold down the SS position and want be any dropoff.

NO TRADE. Unless we do something with picks from next years draft for him.

Do keep in mind he is a rookie who hasn't taken a snap in the NFL. As a rookie I would think he would be hungry to get on the field and play out a rookie deal so he can cash in on big money... this is just a major delay.

Hagin714,

I'd offer a conditional 7th that can become a 4th if Leary misses no games due to injury & extends his deal with us ;).

Bosa is getting screwed, as the Chargers are claiming precedence that is not there.
As for the OP, there are multiple reasons it will never happen. But sure, I'd take him any day.

Wow, what a mess. Bosa & the Chargers are both losing out but this is really hurting the player. They had enough conviction to scout and draft him @ #3, yet hedging on him to fail .

And the Bolts wonder why Archie and Eli decided it was best to go to another team?!?

Before anyone says it, I know FO has changed, but that franchise is still dysfunctional...

I was annoyed when Sedrick Ellis did it, especially considering the way he turned out.

This is way different than the Ellis deal. That was pre-CBA when contract amounts could be negotiated. Rookie pay is now slotted. So, Bosa's not holding out for more money. He's fighting over HOW the money is to be paid. His agent is fighting the contract on two contract terms. The first is over the $17 million signing bonus. The Chargers want a portion of it to be delayed until March 2017, while Bosa's agent wants it all paid upfront. What's the big deal you ask? Six months' interest on $8.5 million. That's what.

The second term being argued is the offset language (new under the CBA) which would give the Chargers financial relief if Bosa is released prior to his contract expiring and Bosa signing with a new team. To take affect this has to be agreed upon by both parties. If Bosa accepts the term it would affect his value on the open market. Most teams have apparently avoided this tactic or have not had much fight back.

So, what this comes down to is much like the Brees "holdout", when the NFLPA was challenging the second franchise designation, and the Graham "holdout", when the NFLPA was challenging the player position designation. The is not Bosa being some greedy hardass, it is the NFL hierarchy settling to a norm.

No, precedence is there. Jameis Winston had the offset language AND $6 million of his bonus deferred to March.

Not the NFL hierachy. It has been pointed out that every other top 5 pick since the new CBA in 2012 has either had the bonus paid in full the first year and/or the offset language removed. This is specifically the Chargers trying to set a new norm,

Update: I wasn't aware of Winston's contract until I read Guido's post.

Yup. That's what makes this situation so hairy.
