Re: Sheldon Rankins Injured

When I read "air cast" that is always a broken bone. At least I've never heard of it being used for any other reason. So that was relieving, and of course we have it confirmed now. Far better to have a broken leg than a torn ligament.

I still remember when Bryant Young snapped his leg in half way back in '98, I believe it was. That was gruesome and of course was a much longer recovery period, but he went on to make more pro bowls.

Saints DT Sheldon Rankings out 6-8 weeks (broken fibula): 4/10 Disaster Rating
This is a tough one to grade. On one hand, the Saints received great news when it was revealed that Sheldon Rankins "only" sustained a broken fibula. When he was carted off the practice field, it seemed as though the injury could be much worse. New Orleans feared that its first-round rookie would miss the entire 2016 campaign. On the other hand, this injury could end up being much worse than initially projected.

As it stands now, Rankins is set to be absent just six to eight weeks, meaning his likely return is right after the team's Week 5 bye. However, it's not quite that simple. Steelers Pro Bowl center Maurkice Pouncey missed all of 2015 with the same injury, as he had complications with his recovery. Still, this is better than a torn ACL or Achilles, as Rankins has a chance to play in early October.

Hopefully no complications.

With a chance to play by early October? ... shoot I'll take that all day.

DISREGARD. Was writing post before I saw the previous couple of replies.

I'd say prepare for AT LEAST 8 weeks. Depending on severity/complications, could be longer.

It's not just waiting for the bone to heal. It's then getting the strength back. Then it's working your way back to game shape. Then it's getting back up to speed with all the missed snaps up to then.

There's stories of fibulas that took only 3 weeks to completely heal, and then there are those that say they were never the same. So whatever the case, I hope he doesn't get rushed back too early.

We do still have Fairley and Davidson, so hopefully the others can step up behind them for the forseeable future.

True, and we also have Jenkins and Richardson who can slide inside pretty effectively. If Jenkins is at 330 he's probably a good fit for pushing the pocket. If he's back up top 360+, he doesn't really help us there at all.

Its a blow, but its not devastating.

Jairus Byrd, Keenan Lewis, Hau'Oli Kikaha, Victor Butler, Stephone Anthony and now Sheldon Rankins.

It's a good thing we still have a offense...

OK, I looked as hard as I could to detect sarcasm in this post.
None detected.
Are you serious?
There is nothing in that post that is even remotely sensible.
Each player is an individual.
They are human beings that are as susceptible to stresses on their bodies as any other human would have.
SEC players do not have bones that are more dense than Big East players.
Do you think that some conferences pump adamantium into their players' bones to make them freaking Wolverine?

I was wrong.

This is one of the most illogical, meaningless preseason stats out there and that is saying a lot.
