I believe that it's really just as simple as Williams is healthy and playing reasonably well while Lewis is unavailable. Payton has said as much when asked about the release. As I've said, it's likely that the Saints did Lewis a favor. It's tough to catch on when you're a late cut. SFIAH |

Pretty much exactly my only issue with it. Lewis may never have gotten on the field, but keeping guys who are just warm bodies, for the sake of having warm bodies doesn't outweigh the importance of trying to get Lewis healthy, knowing what he's capable of. Not in my mind anyway.

There are other players at different positions who are never going to make this team. I think Lewis has done enough when healthy to earn the right to try to get healthy, at least up until final cuts.![]()
If he can't get healthy and get on the field this preseason for the Saints, then he wouldn't for anyone else, either. So with that in mind, I don't agree that they did him any favors. |
