I had not planned on really letting this out, but I will because I want everyone to have a better understanding of how credible I am and why Mike D\'s opinions are so slanted.
I worked as a scouting intern for Chet Franklin before he left N.O. for Oakland. Chet is now retired. This was when Bill Kuharich was \"the man.\" After the Ditka era ended, I stayed on for one more year with Randy. I know the Saints organization really well. I know what went on behind the scenes when Randy was fired. I sat in the war room. I have put together draft boards. My closest friend from that staff is our west coast scout. I am very in-tune with what goes on around the NFL and in the Saints front office. I know them all. After the internship I also did work in Green Bay and in Baltimore. I currently provide independent consulting for teams and help do background checks on prospects. I still do film work and I still do evaluations and still talk to all these players regularly. I\'m a New Orleans native and graduate of a local private all boy\'s high school. I have roots deep in this city and the Saints have been a part of my life since I was a baby. I\'m now in my late 20\'s(old I know, lol) with a family. That\'s probably good enough to give you all an idea of who I am and what I have done and continue to do. Mike D has been a \"draft guru\" for years. He started in the 80\'s at a time when it was just Mel Kiper and Joel Buschbaum. Detillier was the third guy. He made a name for himself in the south because Kiper(Baltimore) and Buschbaum(NYC) were in the NE region. Mike sent his draft preview guides to the facility every year. Every year it was the most hideous analysis anyone had seen. He doesn\'t have access to the coaches\' film from the colleges and without that, you can\'t really make an assessment of a player\'s talents based on what you see on ESPN and ABC, etc. In an e-mail addressed to Mike, A former Saints GM told him that it was not necassary for him to keep sending the team information. In fact, the exact words were, \"We appreciate the information, but we have our own scouts.\" It\'s no secret that many draft gurus want to be scouts. It\'s their passion. Mike D has passion about what he does, but he does not do it well. Problem is that he is all this city has. I\'d keep going on, but my 5 year old son needs to be fed. Comments and questions are wlecomed. We can continue this anytime. |

CanLoomis --
That\'s some great stuff, man. I knew when I read your first post that you must have some sort of football back-ground. Nobody knows that type of info. off the top of their head. No one I\'ve ever seen anyway. I\'d be very interested in what you hear leading up to the upcoming season and beyond. Maybe we can get you to write a column and we can put a \"sticky\" on it so every can read it. Just a thought. Good job. |

CanLoomis -- I\'ll be reading your posts eagerly man. Personally I read all that stuff as someone\'s opinion and don\'t put too much faith in any of it whether it\'s good or bad...Mike\'s included. |

Well, I could possibly be the most ignorant man in the world. Whether or not Mike D. has an \"axe to grind\", I plan to continue to read him. Even if the general consensus is that he doesn\'t know much about the game, his predictions in recent years have been eerily accurate.

It is like watching Carney , a seasoned veteran at the position walk onto the field under ideal field conditions and miss a 20 yard chip shot . You have to wonder how did that happen ?? Certainly you would not expect that from a veteran Someone else must be at blame ??? We will give him the benefit of the doubt and hope this is not a trend . If it continues - cut him . |
