That's alot of guaranteed money...

Re: Saints & Brees re-start contract negotiations

That doesn't sound bad. But I really wonder if something will really be done in the next few days. Maybe both sides want to get it done befeoe the season so they don't have all the distractions during the season.

I haven't looked into it but lets say his number drop big time this year or even next how much money will be be costing us in dead money if we cut him or have to move on from him?

He hasn't shown any drop off whatsoever to this point. He is in better physical condition than the average NFL QB ten years younger. He has no more likeliness to suddenly drop off as any other healthy QB and therefore no more risk.

The man brought us a Super bowl for cryin' out loud. His value is still high and should remain there for at least three years with even a steady decline as he gets older. He's a bargain at any price.

With Brees - We have a legit shot at it all
Without Brees - Cleveland Browns

I think its a consensus that if you don't have an elite QB... NO SUPERBOWL FOR YOU!

In terms of eras we are. We have one serious contention era under our belt, the current one(or the better half). It's not me saying this it's others on here acting like when Brees is done, we won't contend anymore at this level.

Re: Saints & Brees re-start contract negotiations

I take it you people don't think Carr will be elite. Luck, Wilson, Carr three QBs drafted in three years. Also add Dalton and his name I will not say and that's five QBs drafted in four years. Mariotta is gonna be good as well. He is just on the wrong team. It is all about the system more than the QB. There has been a NFL ready QB in the draft every other year at least. I guess you believe Payton will leave when Brees is done or whatever. We'll see. He won't survive anywhere else as a HC.

If CK and Flacco can go to a sb, you don't have an elite qb.

You can't read this, but none of those QB's you named would I rather have in place of Brees right now. None of those have proved anything for anywhere near as long as Brees.

Re: Saints & Brees re-start contract negotiations

I agree i wouldn't either and as i said yesterday 25ml a year on th face of it is fine. But its not only about if they are better. I'd take Wilson or Luck now on 25ml a year because the drop off isnt huge, might ot be a drop off at all in a year or two. Dalton,no wouldn't touch him too expensive for what he offers. Carr is interesting(Who knows he could even hit FA in a couple of years if he isnt happy in Oakland) but if you could have traded them at the start of FA youd have had a good youg QB and a additioal 20ml in cap space then you are talking is it better to have Brees or Carr,Evan Mathis,Alex Boone,Charles Johnson and Bruce Irvin

I obviously not saying they all would have joined and its playing fantasy GM to a point but is does give you a question to answer.

I said yesterday 25ml for Brees is more than a fair price, but im obviously worried about how many years your are locked in for at his age, especially with a creaky line. We saw first hand against the Vikings in 09 what can happen when you put a great QB aging behind a creaky line

Unless they get a guard it would be better taking that hit now rather than kicking it down the road.

Something has to be in the works; all a sudden get the Brees done to save cap and cut Finnegan to save even more...

I agree he'll get the deal done, but I think you are full of crappola that chances are he gets injured. :bs:

Re: Saints & Brees re-start contract negotiations

Brees could get injured in the first game of the season and if its not a career ender he would still be besieged by offers

You could guarantee the likes of the Jets(with Brees they'd be SB contenders) the Browns,Bears etc would offer him over 20ml a year for 2 years minimum.

Im saying if he got injured tomorrow and missed the season he would get a multimillion big contract next year even if not with the Saints

You dont agree?

I'm wondering about this talk about him getting injured. I don't think it is a subject to even consider.

Of course its not
It was a reply to the comment that its in his interests to take the deal as a injury could mean he is worth nothing.

I guess I'm questioning even barking up that tree. Why is there even talk of injury? I could walk out my front door tomorrow and get hit by a meteorite but not going to be discussing options available.

There is always the chance of getting injured. It's football. Brees next contract will be his last and he knows it. The older you get the more prone to injury you are.
We all know you are a "brees can do no wrong" guy but to suggest he is impervious to injury is just "crappola"

No. You said it was more likely than not that he gets injured. That's not the off chance of getting injured. You basically said that you expect him to get injured. That's what I called crapolla on. LOL

"Basically"isn't saying. A firecracker is basically an atom bomb if you are dealing with ants. Our offensive line looks bad. Just bad. He doesn't have the protection he had had in the past. His chances of getting injured are higher this year than ever.

He has no worse protection than he had last year when he finished in the middle of the league in getting hit. He finished first in passing yards and second in passing percentage. Why are his chances worse this year?

He got hurt last year Guido with basically the same line. The G play is bad. It could easily happen.
