this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I might be the only one on here but I wouldn't sign Brees to a big contract at his age....

That's your opinion, you're entitled to it, not that I have to tell you that, lol.

I don't agree, but you're more than welcome to feel that way

Re: Saints & Brees re-start contract negotiations

I say sign him because:

1) We will be a 3 win team for the rest of this decade without him

2) How much would a starting QB (assuming we could find one) that would give us a chance to sniff the playoffs cost us? Easily $20MM+

3) When you add the fact that Drew is a top 5 QB on a BAD day, how much does that price increase?

YES, Drew makes a ridiculous amount of $$$ when compared to the rest of us and is slated to make even more - in NOLA or elsewhere - but he does not make a ridiculous amount of $$$ compared to other starting QBs.

Brees is not perfect - dare I say he's cost us a game or two here or there - but he is the single reason this team is 7+ wins year in and year out and has a chance to make the playoffs. He also won us a Superbowl.

Sure, 7-9 back to back is VERY disappointing, but it beats the hell out of the end of Mora, the Ditka years, and the end of Haslett (along with the 1960s and most of the 1970s).

Get the deal done, clear up some cap, sign that OL from Dallas (burn up to a 5th rounder for him), and LET'S WIN SOME FOOTBALL GAMES!!!

I doubt a fifth would touch that OL from Dallas; Dallas is over-charging; especially this late in the ball-game

Why don't you come back and talk crap to people when you are actually right about something.

I concur. Why lose the greatest asset we have?

- ok, im not one of the experts around here. Why are we doing this now?
Is this going to be a distraction? Seems like it would have been smarter to do this in the offseason.

But all he gave was his opinion, i.e "I would limit it to this amount"

No matter who is right and who is wrong, there's no need to jump on someone's opinion, he never said he had anything to do with negotiations, saying the "I would limit it to this amount" is a phrase of speech. Every fan has the right to say what they think is a fair deal and not get blasted by yourself with some sarcastic response.

I rarely, very rarely ever make predictions. The Saints re-signing Brees was one and re-signing Payton was the other. I got Payton right and while the timing may not have been what I initially projected, the jury is still out on Brees and I still like my chances. You are welcome to search for any other bold predictions I have been wrong about.
