I say sign him because:

1) We will be a 3 win team for the rest of this decade without him

2) How much would a starting QB (assuming we could find one) that would give us a chance to sniff the playoffs cost us? Easily $20MM+

3) When you add the fact that Drew is a top 5 QB on a BAD day, how much does that price increase?

YES, Drew makes a ridiculous amount of $$$ when compared to the rest of us and is slated to make even more - in NOLA or elsewhere - but he does not make a ridiculous amount of $$$ compared to other starting QBs.

Brees is not perfect - dare I say he's cost us a game or two here or there - but he is the single reason this team is 7+ wins year in and year out and has a chance to make the playoffs. He also won us a Superbowl.

Sure, 7-9 back to back is VERY disappointing, but it beats the hell out of the end of Mora, the Ditka years, and the end of Haslett (along with the 1960s and most of the 1970s).

Get the deal done, clear up some cap, sign that OL from Dallas (burn up to a 5th rounder for him), and LET'S WIN SOME FOOTBALL GAMES!!!

I doubt a fifth would touch that OL from Dallas; Dallas is over-charging; especially this late in the ball-game

Re: Saints & Brees re-start contract negotiations

It depends if the FO wants what Brees is asking for.

I will say this we are not prepared for life beyond Brees and that's pretty sad. That's why we will never be associated with other teams and always have our ancient history thrown in our face when we are not winning. Down the road no one is ever gonna want to go out of their way in the media and call Brees one of the all time greats just because "he made the saints relevant unlike any other QB". Just goes to show that we have not evolved and people are right to put us down because they have been right in saying we are a fluke.

Good hell man. That's a hell of a negative stance on stuff. I get being realistic, but I don't think "fluke" is the word that I'd choose to describe the Saints.

In terms of eras we are. We have one serious contention era under our belt, the current one(or the better half). It's not me saying this it's others on here acting like when Brees is done, we won't contend anymore at this level.

Re: Saints & Brees re-start contract negotiations

In any case I think his willingness to restart negotiations means he really wants to remain and retire a Saint. There was a point last year where I wondered if he was ready to get away from Saints/Payton.
Looks like he wants to make sure he is set financially before he takes a snap from behind our offensive line.
