Rankins can start practicing week 6, but can't play until week 8.

Re: Saints re-sign Cadet & Tapp, Rankins to IR (designated to return)
Good move on Rankins, but there is one small thing inaccurate. He hasn't been designated to return. That is a new change this year. You can now name any single player placed on IR as designated to return at any time following six weeks after the original designation. You no longer have to designate upon placing the player on IR. Don't forget about Kikaha. He'll be eligible to return before Rankins if he is ready or at any time if he is MORE ready than Rankins.

NFL passes Bills' proposed change to injured-reserve rules - Mar 23, 2016
BOCA RATON, Fla. -- NFL owners passed a change to the league's bylaws Wednesday, proposed by the Buffalo Bills, that will give teams more flexibility in deciding which player they designate to return from injured reserve. The new bylaw will allow teams to choose one player to return to practice among their players already on injured reserve, provided that player has spent at least six weeks on injured reserve. That player would then be able to return to the active roster and play in a game two weeks later. |

I kind of like Tapp, played hard. Cadet has never impressed me in the least. Glad Rankins will be back.

Nick Fairley & Davison have looked very good and now with the recent addition of Kruger, I think we are in good hands on the D line.
I'm glad the Saints are being cautious with Rankins. No need to rush him back into the lineup. |
