Will this be the failed Goodwin reunion all over again?

Re: Jahri again?

The Saints are bringing back their Pro Bowl guard Jahri Evans. He signed with the team today, according to a league source.

Evans was let go in the offseason as a cost-cutting measure, but he is going to be able to come in right away and start this Sunday for the Saints against the Oakland Raiders.

Evans was in training camp with the Seattle Seahawks, but did not make their 53 man roster, and was susequently released. He was in a tryout yesterday and is now officially a member of the Saints.

If, and its a big IF, he is healthy I think this can be really good. His production slowed down mostly by injuries.
If nothing else, after spending most of the preseason with the Sehags he should be able to give the coaches a bunch of input on their playbook for when we play them in week 8.

Evans wasn't released by the Saints because what we had was better. He was released because he wouldn't take a pay cut. Now he is still better than what the Saints have and he has taken the pay cut. He was rated at #28 OG by PFF so that still puts him better than half the OG's in the league. That is not desperation. That is taking advantage of the opportunity of his release by the Seahawks.

Don't forget that Evans played with basically one hand last year. He had that addressed and should be improved.

Guess he should've waited to sell that house after all. Well, welcome back. You're probably better then anything we have now. If he can be solid, we're gonna be much better.

Re: Jahri again?

Folks,

I think what most posters are getting at is that it's not all about Jahri (he was solid here for years), or Lelito, Sitton, Schwartz etc. The season is less than 5 days away and we have been bouncing/shuffling players & looking for a starter for a key position on the line.

The FO could and should be doing a better job. We are starting to see the consequences of bad contracts, poor signings, dead money etc. The guard "situation" could have been avoided a couple of seasons ago IMO.

Hoping for all the best on 9/11. I'm ready :peace: .

Evans hasn't actually taken a pay cut... He'll still be making the dead money from when we cut him.

Unless it has been renegotiated as part of the signing. I'm not sure, but it does seem possible contractually.

Re: Jahri again?

If it keeps Lelito or Kelemete off the field then I'm all for this signing. He played hurt last year apparently......I didn't know that. If his injuries are still lingering his play will still be effected. I wonder what the Seahags saw that made them release him? Regardless he is a plug and play player for a line in desperate need of help. Armstead/Peat/Unger/ Evans/Strief will be an adequate line if peat continues to improve at LG. Evans and Strief on the right side may need additional blocking but Payton can game plan for that. Overall I would feel much more comfortable about our offensive line. It keeps me awake at night now.
