Trade bait? That contract looks very acceptable for a team who needs a QB but doesn't want to be obligated long term.

I've just read a little and it says if we want to move on after year 2, then we can just start a new with minimal cap implications which is very good.

If something bad happens i.e peyton mannings injury, then we can move on.

Very safe deal from all accounts, I just hope regardless that Brees retires a saint and doesn't play for another team.

So is it a 2 year contract or a 5 year contract?

It's essentially a 2 year deal and the extra 3 years are included in case we restructure his deal next year for whatever reason we'll be able to prorate the signing bonus over those extra years to spread it out. I think that's the case anyway. Basically it lets us spread money out if we restructure the deal in 2017.

No trade clause in deal

The contract reportedly includes a no-trade clause.

It also forbids the Saints from using the franchise tag on him. I don't really get that part since the Saints would only use the franchise tag after the first two years are up and since the contract (apparently) contains an automatic void after two years, the two parties wouldn't have a contract ... so the Saints could use the franchise tag since at that point there is no contract preventing it. (?)

I'm sure if it was the Giants or Ravens doing it then it would be no problem.

In 2 years the only teams that would touch him would be the win now crowd. If he can play another 2 years after that than we would have the best chance to retain him and he would have the best chance to win another Superbowl by staying with us! I love that no one is picking us to finish anywhere else but the bottom of the division. We are good at being the underdog. Gives us more to celebrate when we do win the Superbowl this year! Yes I said it and I won't take it back. We will beat the Kansas City Chiefs 35-17!!!!!!!!!

Can they roll all of it over or just a percent

Anything left at the end of the season automatically rolls. Most teams usually have very little, but anything left goes.
