Our defensive line was bad ... really bad. Maybe once Rankins returns in a month or so, he will provide some fire inside the trenches. Looking at the schedule, we are gonna require a lot of luck because our depth is going to be tested teams far better than Oakland every Sunday.

One injury (Breaux) could really hurt us long term.

definitely need to find a way to get more pressure

Yeah have to agree, and the disturbing D not being able to stop the run like last 2 years is opening up a deadly bag of kittens again. Not sure what that ment. Im a little pissed to.

I thought we had good moments, run d not as good as would have liked, but I saw a lot of JJ and thought davidson did well. Think they must have been just keeping guys fresh

Well, looks like our corners better grow up quick. I think we are literally one long run and a missed FG away from being that team we been waiting to see for a few years

Yeah agree they did look better than last year, but what is up with our LB core ? We are so soft in the middle and cant cover it. You make it past our front 4 and its 4-7 more yards. Laurin was not a factor even seems confused at times

Conventional wisdom should of had the good ole boys gone years ago. This mess is on Payton and his" friends". I hope he don't think we're going to score 30+ points every game against better D's?

Re: Game Day - Opening Day: Oakland Raiders vs New Orleans Saints

If the defense can play great for at least one half and the offense score like they did we will at least break even this season, but that's not a playoff team and hasn't been for a few years now.

Re: Game Day - Opening Day: Oakland Raiders vs New Orleans Saints

I think we need to learn how to run the ball when we get a lead more.we are in such a hurry to try to push the ball down the field with the pass way to much.the defense is spent when the fourth quarter rolls around.we need to do a better job at controlling the time of possession IMHO

Has Byrd turned into Malcolm Jenkins 2.0?

Cher, you need to come outta da cave, Bro...

Jack Del Rio has turned up the gas 'cause the Raiders are a serious playoff team...

On to next week... Where we'll face a QB who threw 6 TD's against us last season and that was WITH Breaux.

I'm seeing a lot of this sentiment for the Raiders today. I don't know where it's coming from.

They aren't as bad as they were a couple of years ago, but I don't see playoffs for them. And by no means does beating the Saints prove anything. We know how this team plays down to competition virtually every year. I could be wrong about Oakland, but honestly I think we just lost to an average team.

Neaux, we aren't that lucky...

Where Brees was the greatest free agent signing in the history of the NFL, Byrd is among the worst...

When we signed Brees, he nor our front office had many options at quarterback..

In fact, Nick Saban and the Dolphins made the choice for us by trading for Daunte Culpepper, leaving us to take the leftover in Brees...

So the Mickster hasn't done a spec job of advising, tempering Payton on personnel moves which is why we're scrambling among UDRFAs to find players...

We've wasted picks, combining to move up and then released those players...

And it shows in the lack of results from our front seven which is improved, but obviously needs more coaching and probably more talent...

They have two good receivers, a great pass rusher, a good oline, a good DE yet they aren't better than average?

Oakland O line was playing with 2nd, 3rd string guys due to injury today.

They should average 24 to 27 ppg. Not 35. Their close to taking the next step if they haven't already. Could be this season? The team I believe will take the next step is Jacksonville. Carr and Bortles are pretty decent qb.'s and I believe will only get better in time.

Completely agree
Id be happy most years if most of the draft was made up of drafting for both the lines and LB/CB. I think you can fid the rest elsewhere. Drew doesnt need out of this world receivers,if you can run a route and get a touch of seperation he will find you. Its nice to have great WR and RB but not at the expense of the trenches and we are seriously lacking there

CheramieIII 09-12-2016 08:13 AM

Re: Game Day - Opening Day: Oakland Raiders vs New Orleans Saints

Like I said in another thread we need to control the big plays. Cooper had catches of 34 and 35 yards and one run by Richards was 75 yards. Sprinkle in a few more and we did pretty good on defense. Never had to worry about the offense just the line and they came through with flying colors

Come on JP. It's not a cave, it's an underground dwelling! The Raiders aren't that good. Del Rio got lucky and the Saints let down the last 18 minutes allowing 25 points by Oakland. On 3 plays alone the Raiders got 145 yards and without those defense did good for almost 3 full quarters.

Del Rio is NOT a good coach. 76-80 since 2003 and 7-9 last year. What pieces did they add since then? Nada

Del Rio just got lucky with nothing to lose. 2 2 point conversions? Never happen again!

The Raiders secondary will keep them out of the playoff contention.

Cooks beat up on Sean Smith so bad, they eventually benched him.

I can see Cooks beating up on alot of DB's this season. He's speedy gonzales in human form.

No doubt but Sean was getting beat off the line. This guy is all of 6'3 & is no scrub but yeah Cooks is a human missile.

One of positives from yesterday's game.

Re: Game Day - Opening Day: Oakland Raiders vs New Orleans Saints

One of my worries is the lack of the teams ability to close games out. That Lutz FG should have been a TD and th game would have been dead.

Whe i have watched the Pats or Seattle especially in the past few years if they had the lead or where level and had possesion with 5 mins on the clock you new a long 4 min plus drive was on the cards and they'd see out the game. The Saints dont play the clock well these days imo

Yeah you could see Cooks gaining inches on every step he took. Just amazing.

I just want to say; even though we lost; both sides of the ball played better than I thought they would...

Even with the loss of Breaux; I'm excited to see the rookies play...

Exactly, why don't they just trade him if they don't want to use him? As I said we have not really ran it consistently with one back late since PT left.

Re: Game Day - Opening Day: Oakland Raiders vs New Orleans Saints

We havent been able to close games out since mid season 2013 when we lost to the patriots, only needing a first down to win.

Sorry to say, but this team is not going anywhere until some coaching changes are made. Payton just hires his friends and refuses to accept that our LB's are piss poor every season, Our D line is invisible every season and he can't handle the clock management duties at all.
