Defense good for a 1/2

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I didn't hear Fairley or Davison's name called at all today. Gashed up the middle virtually all of the 2nd half. That schedule has a lot of better O lines far better than Oakland coming up. Better get it together....

Same D different year. Another bottom of the league finish for this D. Looks like nothing has changed. Can't stop the run, receivers open all game, ZERO pressure against backups of backups. Sad.

Re: Defense good for a 1/2

need a big butted, sand in the pants run stuffer up front that eats up blockers for lunch.

When we got stuck with 4 rookies in the secondary, 2 of which went undrafted I could see Carr licking his lips. That was the turning point of the game.

Delvin Breaux must stay healthy

Cortland Finnegan signed before the Falcons?

Ken Crawley got abused badly, he has a good bit to learn

1 guy getting hurt shouldn't kill the D. DB40 going out didn't hurt the pass rush, they sucked all game.

If we don't get a more consistent pass rush, it could get ugly.
Those young corners are going to get abused every week.

You shouldn't lose when you put up 30+ points at this level.

Brees deserves better.

Brees must be wondering why he didn't let his agents talk to the Broncos.

Re: Defense good for a 1/2

I thought all in all the defense at least held together for a half, but I wasn't thrilled with the run defense. They looked good at times and bad at others. But then came the second half, and they got completely gashed. Breaux leaving didn't help, but the biggest problem for the secondary was there was almost ZERO pass rush... Again.

A healthy Ellerbe has shown to make a sizable difference, and of course he wasn't there today. And that's just the problem with him. You never know when he's going to play.

Offensively, there were a lot of explosive and exciting plays. But you can't bog down in the red zone so much. Overall though, they did what they should have done against a middling team like the Raiders.

Coby Fleener was, after one game, exactly who I thought he was. He better start showing up. We had a third down where Drew threw a high ball where only Fleener could get it, and the defender had his back turned so it should have been an easy catch. Dropped. That's his M.O.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

Yeah the run defense was just as bad as last 2 years. They ran on us at will pretty much and that opens up to play action, a confused defense, and trying to call lucky plays. Instead of dictating what the offense can do.
