Where is Stephone Anthony??
1 Attachment(s)
He played 13 snaps vs Oakland
I never noticed him out on the field vs NY, he did not record a tackle and was not on the inactive list. I've got an awful feeling that they are phasing him out, he was our best defensive player last season, they moved him for an overrated veteran and I haven't heard much so far. I hope it doesn't turn out like Malcolm Jenkins, where he turns into a pro bowl player the minute he leaves our team. |
Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
Good question... I was about to ask myself? Mauti surely can't be better than him.
|
Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
I just don't understand it. This topic always has to be prefaced with "Maybe he's still not fully recovered from the injury and they don't want to rush him back"... But who knows?
Wasn't the whole thing about making Dennis Allen the DC to simplify the scheme and get rid of communication issues? Shouldn't that have benefited Anthony if he was overwhelmed by Rob Ryan's strange scheme? Imagine having super-athletic LB's like Robertson and Anthony on the field together. |

Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
Yeah, I have a hard time believing he isn't one of our best LB's. Why you would move a guy like that to a position that rarely sniffs the field due to playing in the nickel D so much doesn't make much sense to me. He's only in his second year, he needs to be on the field getting experience. They're gonna screw up his development if they don't find ways to get him involved.
|
Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
Probably be releasing him this week..... He should definitely be on the field !
|
Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
I heard over the radio on wwl, that Mauti is smarter, and that he was covering better than SA. Along with other things that was being said.
That same question was brought up. |
Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
There's also some talk of Anthony pouting about the Laurinaitis signing and position change... Allegedly not even bothering to learn the defense or his assignments.
|
Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
Bull...
Anthony is an ideally suited 3-4 linebacker as is Hau'oli Kikaha and Davis Tull... We tore the defensive plan to install the 3-4 out of the playbook when we brought back Dennis Allen... Allen has affirmatively put his mark on this team and we're now a 4-3 team with 4-3 personnel... Don't see a place for Anthony nor Kikaha on this team for the long term; expect a trade or outright release for both... What really sucks is that Jonathan Casillas looked really good out there today for the G'nats... It's another 3 year plan for the defense like the old Soviet 5 year economic plans... But you know what? The defense looked great nonetheless and if it's 4-3, then so mote it be, good luck Stephone Anthony... Wasted draft picks, yes, but we make it work with Undrafted Rookie Free Agents anyways... |

But this defense is on Payton, Allen moving forward and that's what it is... |
Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
What is smart about rushing the passer that make Mauti a better fit? SA need to be out there at mlb not the Sam position. I personally don't see nothing Laurinaitis doing besides being blown off his feet. To be the leading tackler to riding the bench is STUPID
|
Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
Yea this has been VERY disturbing to say the least...I was asking the same thing where is 50??? it doesnt make sense the " not understanding the playbook" "Pouting because of James Lauranitis" &"MAUTI being better" miss me with the BS because SA is better than both somethings up on the inside and we wont know till seasons end
|
Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
If I owned Kleinpeter Milk I'd put Stephone Anthony on the back of the cartons just to get a response...
Media yes men sure aren't going to do it... |
Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
I have a hard time buying the whole 4-3 3-4 uncrossable gorge.
Players make plays. Linebacking is filling gaps, shaking blocks and getting to the ball. Some pass coverage is involved along with some good instincts. Anthony looked/looks equipped to make plays: 3-4 or 4-3. If he's not hurt, and he's not on the field, there is something going on. |
Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
IDK but for some reason the Saints are trying to turn Stephone into a SAM because they didn't like the way the rookie was running the defense. So instead of giving him another year to grow into the role, they moved him over to a position he's never played and isn't on the field for 70% of the snaps and expect him to get better.
You know, like that OT they drafted that they are trying to turn into a OG. Or that high profile every down RB they signed two seasons ago that they tried to turn into a satellite back. Square pegs, round holes, yet Payton is still sitting there with his mallet trying to force the pegs in. :help: |
Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
The problem is that the scheme changing only confuses Ireland's reputation. If Anthony is traded(and let's face it it won't be for a first rounder), what impact has he accomplished from the draft? Someone that has been playmakers and took control of games? There's nothing to show so far.
|
Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
Snap counts are out... Only 4 for Stephone Anthony. Let me say that again: 4 snaps. This is some BS.

We draft a very promising LB and let him start right away, then Dennis Allen comes in and immediatedly moves him, then benches him. It's ridiculous, 4 snaps! |

|
Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
I thought he was going to show out this year too.
|
Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
This is BS yet not surprising. Why even draft a promising LB in the first if you're going to keep him off the field. This coaching staff is starting to show that it's clueless
|
Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
I'd like to see Anthony starting at MLB with Laurinaitis hasn't been a good player in a long time. And quite frankly, overrated when he was.
|
Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
has to be more to this , if the reporters to there job they would be asking what the hells going on with anthony.
|
Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
Allen might not like him for some odd reason. Allen comes off as a pompous know it all with a stick up his arse. Maybe a Keenan type deal with him, idk but you don't keep out your promising young lb out the game for a slow and weak lb that is only there cuz Sean has always had a hard on for Laurinaitis since forever.
|
Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
Maybe JL does have better communicating skills but that is where I stop. Anthony has very good instincts, a far better tackler and is a speed guy.
A 2015 first round player with 4 total snaps in a very meaningful game is concerning to me. |

And with Kikahas injuries that class may go down as o e of the worst under Payton/Loomis. I don't think his body will hold up.
|
Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
If Anthony is not the line-'em-up guy, why not let Robertson or a Safety do it? Is it written stone it has to be the Mike?
Hell, you've got team captains on offense that are not even the quarterback on some teams... While I'd preferred a 3-4 as we'd drafted several good players for it, I respect Dennis Allen for taking charge and putting his stamp on the defense... But D*mn Man, quit wasting ****ing draft picks and make it work with what you've got... I'm in Anthony's camp on this and it seems Allen made his mind up before reaching out to Anthony... |
Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
Yeah, okay; he runs like lightening but can't play Linebacker in a nickel, please...

Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
We are just absolutely bursting with talent at the linebacker position and we don't have a spot for Anthony.
Sarcasm but I guess that is what Payton would have us believe. |
Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
Laurinaitis was in for all defensive snaps and only accomplish 1 tackle and 2 assists. You have your leading tackler benched and you can't answer a simple question of why? I am just thinking if he was in when it was a 3rd and a long 2 yds (normally a team will try to throw for the first) would they held them. Laurinaitis was driven back with authority and they got that 1st
I wish I had video of it. The guy do not need to start if they so concern why not just give him (SA)some snaps at mlb to help him progress 3-2-NYG 25 (8:12) (No Huddle, Shotgun) 23-R.Jennings left guard to NYG 27 for 2 yards (53-J.Laurinaitis, 32-K.Vaccaro http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/201609...yze=playbyplay |

Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
This is what's bogging me. Ireland has no proved his critics wrong sorry to say. The excuse that the team changed scheme means nothing to them. We need these draft picks to start playing like superstars. It's not a three year window anymore.

When the saints signed Laurinaitis, I was expecting an active rotation at MLB till Anthony got adjusted. Never really liked the move but I am was willing to give it a shot. But to sit a talent like him makes one wonder. |
Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
DA runs the show his way. Keenan Lewis didn't mesh with Allen and is now gone. It looks like we may see that same pattern again with Anthony.
If we wanted to trade him you would think we would show case him during the games. I'm really beginning to question the FO on a regular basis now. |
Re: Where is Stephone Anthony??
I really really really really hope we do not get rid of Anthony. Maybe he's too durable?
