Saints Ain’t “Smashmouth” — But They Must Be More Balanced to Win
Saints will run the ball more against the failclowns Monday night.
This lukewarm approach to the ground attack was highlighted by the mere 13 times the Saints ran the ball against the Giants.*It doesn’t get much better if you include the season opener against the Raiders. All told, the Saints have rushed the ball a paltry 35 times, which is the second fewest attempts in the league, behind the Washington Redskins. Re: Saints Ain’t “Smashmouth” — But They Must Be More Balanced to Win
The question is whether the number of running plays dictated the flow of the game, or did the flow of the game dictate the number of running plays? It is all good and fine to weigh the percentage of offensive plays, but I question when the Saints should have run instead of going to the pass in the first two games. I personally saw more instances where I would have wanted to see a pass play over a run than vice versa.

I think they need to run the rock more. Not like the old days when 1st and 2nd down were always run plays. Just run the ball more. 13 times in that close of a game in both contests could have been good.
No matter what, the passing attack will always be the bread and butter while Sean and Drew are in NOLA. But man...tote that rock a few more times a game. Slow things down a bit. |

So far, the Falcons have given up 122.5 yards per game at 4.6 yards per carry.
This would be a great time to get the running game going. |
