this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; It would seem that if we could just get a mid-level defense, we would be in the talks every year. Injuries, poor decisions, busts, we just haven't been as lucky on that side of the ball....

Re: New Orleans Saints Are Wasting the End of Drew Brees' HOF Career
I'm a little surprised that some are so dismissive about this article.
Drew isn't getting younger. Our Defense isn't really getting better. Time is the one adversary none of us can beat. If you don't think that Drews time with the Saints is nearing its end, you might be a little crazy. When the game clock reads 00:00; we are that much closer to Drews last game with the Saints. Yes, we are wasting valuable time that Drew has to give to us. When your QB throws 3-4-5 TD's a game, odds are you should win. Our defense works about as good as a screen door being used to dam up a river of diarrhea. With that said; We are not wasting Drew's ability. We are wasting the ability he is giving us. Drew's going to continue to put up record-book numbers. However, when you have a abortion for a defense, you are giving "W's" away. Giving playoff chances away. Giving SB rings away. Tick. Tick, Tick. Tick, TICK! |

Re: New Orleans Saints Are Wasting the End of Drew Brees' HOF Career
Unfortunately for Drew we can't field a good defense. That falls directly on the man running the franchise. Is that Payton or Loomis? One of them is in charge. We all know it's Payton.
Payton can't evaluate defense worth a damn but he feels like he needs to tinker with the defense non stop. There have been multiple reasons for not making the playoffs. Injuries, bad free agent signings, dead money, poor drafting and bad coaching(to name a few) have kept he Saints from letting Drew Brees from achieving his potential. I put the blame squarely on Payton for being stubborn and not getting someone in here sooner like Ireland with a defensive eye for talent. Loomis does need someone in house who can reign in Payton and his wild tendencies to gamble in the draft and free agency. |

31 teams end every season not being SB Champions.
There is no magic bullet to solving the riddle. The Pats are a Unicorn in this league. If it were so easy to figure out and emulate? They wouldn't be discussed as such. I don't have all of the answers. No one does. Drew believes in what he is doing. Who are we to question it. He would get paid either way. |

Waste? As if the plan is to give up 33 every week.
We've been better on offense than defense since Payton/Brees showed up. We buy new tires every year and it just has not worked out. New coaches, new players, veterans, rookies, waiver wire, you name it... When the defense played well, we did well (ie Vilma and company). Lots of struggles on the D-side of the ball. Injuries, bad decisions - most of those were after the fact bad. They weren't bad until the performance didn't meet the expectation. It's only a waste if you are not trying. They've been trying. Just hasn't worked out. Lots of things have to go right - it only takes one thing to go wrong. |

Well I personally think we have been wasting him.
With many teams in need of a QB to take them to the next level... we have that QB but we have nothing to support him or take us to the next level. I get it, teams go thought a process and rebuild but you have to look at the Patriots who continue to make the play offs and constantly provide a winning product no matter who is at QB. If Brees goes down our season is lost we might as well start taking draft. Yeah we are wasting him. |

Re: New Orleans Saints Are Wasting the End of Drew Brees' HOF Career
There are 31 teams every year that have wasted a year or their QB's career... Hindsight is always 20/20 when talking personnel decisions and no one is to blame when injuries happen.

Other teams have injuries... losers have excuses. Winners win. |

The Bears need a QB. Let's really waste him and trade him there!
