Re: Restoring the NFL, what would you do?

If I was an NFL Communist:
  • Reduce commercials. I'd rather watch the onfield activity during timeouts than another painful volley of Toyota or Sprint advertisements. Remember the 70's and the two-commercials-interims?
  • Stay with one set of uniforms. It is getting out of control with some teams. And totally trash the Browns' current theme. It's bad enough they are collegiate caliber talent. They don't have to look the part.
  • NFL preview shows: Don't get me started. I say only one hour for each show. Cover every single game going on with equal respectable depth, not just the "marquee" two or three games that get the spotlight. And cut down on the number of analysts from eighteen to maybe two or three. Do we need the population of Rhode Island 'discussing' metrics and strategies? ......and so on.
  • Rookie salary caps. Prove your worth before you take your $$$ to the hospice.
  • Stadiums. Stop trying to make stadiums bigger than the Jones's (not Jerry, ut ita dicam).
  • All apologies to other nations, but keep the NFL in America. If other nations want to see American style football, they reserve the right to form leagues of their own.
  • Five yards and a first down for PI calls.
  • I'm not bitter, but playing Frogger over the center to block field goals has to go.

I can't see how you can reduce commercials. That is determinted by the networks and helps pay them back for the contracts they pay to air the games!

I would loosen celebration penalties.

Determine a damn catch so everyone knows what one is!!!

Give the Saints a 24 point advantage.

Not to mention the trend of squashing the center to the ground right after the snap when he is vulnerable to whatever hit or contact to the neck he may get.

I'm just saying the volume of commercials are contributing the irritation of the NFL. I can count 7 commercials, then a blip to the game to say "we'll be right back.." then another 8 video game and auto insurance ads before anything relevant happens in the game.

The best part is when you flip over to the other Sunday game and 9 times out of 10, not exaggerating, they are also on commercial break.

5 yard Chuck Rule

Under the old rules, defenders were allowed to make contact with a receiver until the ball was in the air. Defenders weren’t permitted to hold the receiver, but they were permitted to bump him.

Hitting a defenseless receiver.

Roger aint no Pete Rozelle nor will he ever be
