Source: Brandin Cooks frustrated with his role on offense
1 Attachment(s)
METAIRIE, La. -- It’s hard to criticize anything the New Orleans Saints are doing on offense after they just posted a season-high 49 points and rolled up 555 yards on the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.
But they probably should make it a priority to get receiver Brandin Cooks more involved on a consistent basis -- if for no other reason than to keep one of their most talented players happy. Cooks and sources have hinted at his growing frustration with his usage throughout this season -- including the zero targets on 45 snaps on Sunday. Now, it’s too early to suggest that Cooks might demand a trade in the offseason. (He is under contract through 2017, with the Saints holding an option for 2018.) Saints should find way to keep Brandin Cooks happy - New Orleans Saints Blog- ESPN If this happens to be true then I'm disappointed in Cooks, you shouldn't out this sort of stuff to the media and create a story, stop being a me player when we are trying to do what it takes to win. |
Re: Source: Brandin Cooks frustrated with his role on offense
Cooks is a good player. Fast and tough. If he wasn't in the game plan, an assumption I personally find absurd, then something is wrong. But, for him not to have a target of some kind is puzzling. From a layman's eye, it looked as if they were not going to let Cooks beat them. Throw in a very productive running game and Fleener being wide open all day, I write it off as just one of those days.

Re: Source: Brandin Cooks frustrated with his role on offense
Not only that but if you are the deep threat and your team scores 49. You did your job. You are to get down field even if the ball isn't coming to you you run that route because it sets up the other routes. Second in catches on the team I don't think that isn't to much to complain about.
Make the play offs and then I'll hear you complain. |
Re: Source: Brandin Cooks frustrated with his role on offense
On Sunday he'll catch 10 for 125 and 2 tds.
DRAMA. |
Re: Source: Brandin Cooks frustrated with his role on offense
If he's going to be a player we build around, we need to somehow manage to get him the ball at least a few times a game. He has game breaking abilities and not even a target is inexcusable IMO. Now if he were some average Joe, then it would be different. I get the frustration.
With that said, it should have been handled behind closed doors. There's no excuse for that either. STUPID BASTARD MADE ME LOSE THIS WEEK IN FANTASY TOO! GIVE HIM THE DAMN BALL. |
Re: Source: Brandin Cooks frustrated with his role on offense
I figured some kinda rift between the receivers because I always see Snead or Thomas congratulate each other after a great play excluded Cooks then that tweet Payton shot down of Thomas of who is running the right route.
Back before fantasy football, fans would crucify him as being selfish. With that said they have to get him the ball |

Are we going to have a Jimmy Graham situation where Brees has to target him 50 times a game and end up throwing back breaking interceptions just to get stats? As i said, if this is true its very disappointing and Cooks needs to grow up. I miss Colston and his demeanor already. |

Re: Source: Brandin Cooks frustrated with his role on offense
I thought someone on here was saying after the game that he looked extremely happy after the win and that he sacrificed his game for the greater good of the team? I get the feeling this is a bit of of an easy target for the media and is just a beat up to get clicks.

Re: Source: Brandin Cooks frustrated with his role on offense
Something is going on IMO. We proved we can win without him. Not only win but blow a team out of the water with him flailing around for over 3 hours.
I hope I am wrong but it's more logical to assume a problem has manifested than just a fluke. |
Re: Source: Brandin Cooks frustrated with his role on offense
I don't believe this for a second
|
Re: Source: Brandin Cooks frustrated with his role on offense
First off, when I hear "source" with no names, I either call BS or I think of Ian Rappaport.
Second, if this story is true, we may have a problem in the locker room. MT is getting a lot of attention this year and maybe taking over the #1 receiver role before too long. I'm sure that's not sitting well with Cooks. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk |
Re: Source: Brandin Cooks frustrated with his role on offense
I'm sure he is frustrated. He's had a few games this season where he's done nothing and now Thomas has come along looking like a legit #1 WR. I don't think that makes him a malcontent or puts him in the doghouse. He's just a young guy trying to find his way still.

Re: Source: Brandin Cooks frustrated with his role on offense
I was wondering what happened to him.... We certainly didn't miss him.
Maybe they went with WRs that blocked better. http://67.media.tumblr.com/1ab939fba...f1ldo1_500.jpg |
Re: Source: Brandin Cooks frustrated with his role on offense
I hope this isn't true. I hate *****y ass receivers. It's annoying. And I've always enjoyed the fact we don't have a bunch of divas on the team like Dallas. Please don't turn into a douchebag Cooks.
|
Re: Source: Brandin Cooks frustrated with his role on offense
I don't know how Cooks is feeling about his role, but when the other receivers are as wide open as they were all day against the Rams, there is literally no reason to throw to Cooks.
If I were out there, I'd want to have some balls thrown my way, too, as a competitor. You always want to feel like you're contributing. But when you realize that your team is winning and maybe you just had to be the decoy that day, then you have to take a step back and understand that it isn't personal. No one is ignoring you. So IF Cooks is bothered by his role, then that is pretty selfish. Targeting players just for the sake of making them happy is a good way to lose AND alienate other players who are getting open and being ignored. |

What do you want Cooks, you want Brees to throw into double coverage and risk an interception so you can make a 7 yard catch?? Grow up seriously. |
Re: Source: Brandin Cooks frustrated with his role on offense
Let's say this is true. There is a solution to all of this, he can be dealt to New England straight up for Jimmy Garoppolo, then we bring Kenny Stills back to be the speed receiver, now everyone is happy...

Re: Source: Brandin Cooks frustrated with his role on offense
Most of you are acting like Cooks is out there acting like a ass. If he did say anything it was most likely based upon a direct question such as, "How do you feel about not being targeted at all during the game?" If he was to answer anything other than wanting to be able to contribute directly then I would have a problem.
I know how the media works. It feeds off of controversy even if it has to be the originator. Cooks has been the main threat for the past couple of years. Brees is always going to go to the open man. Coverage is, of course, going to be the most intense on Cooks at this point. But, with the way Thomas has been playing I expect Cooks to have his share of the action in the coming weeks. I am certain that Cooks knows this, as well. I'll guarantee you that there is nothing to this other than an Ian Rapoport wanna-be trying to get a few extra clicks. His source is most likely his left hand. |
Re: Source: Brandin Cooks frustrated with his role on offense
There is a trend in the NFL of good receivers being ignored, not on this level but I have observed it all season. Monster game and then next to nothing the following week, then somebody emerges out of nowhere like TommyLee.
The spreading the ball around tactic seems to have evolved into a new tactic of ignoring a good receiver for much of the game. Patriots love to do it. Every week with them you never know who is going to be the main effort. |

Gee whiz, talk about guilty before being proven innocent. This is a story some talking head made up. Has Cooks said anything himself? nothing that I have seen... so why is he getting bashed? Ridiculous.

I thought he was drawing coverage.,,

Re: Source: Brandin Cooks frustrated with his role on offense
All this crap is based off of a tweet Cooks posted. Something to the fact that they say this is a business so I guess I will have to be a businessman.
Media is reading into this that Cooks is upset. I personally don't think he is but if he is, learn how to run better routes and beat the coverages and Drew will find you. But his threat on the field is what opened up the rest of the receiving core. Again I don't think there is anything to this story. |
Re: Source: Brandin Cooks frustrated with his role on offense
Snead will hit him this week. You watch.

Re: Source: Brandin Cooks frustrated with his role on offense
Saints coach Sean Payton said he is "not concerned" with WR Brandin Cooks becoming frustrated with his role in the offense. He said it was "a little unusual" to have a game where Cooks had zero targets, but the first play of the game was actually a shot play designed for Cooks that didn't work out, and they will keep working for opportunities to get him touches. "He's a fantastic player and a good man, and we have a great relationship," Payton said. "He's been explosive this season, he's certainly a primary target for us with what we do, and I think that's evident."
