CLEVELAND- Tackling should not be much of a problem for the Cleveland Browns next season.
The Browns on Tuesday added a strong presence on defense, signing linebacker Matt Stewart to a three-year contract. Financial terms were not disclosed. A fourth-round pick out of Vanderbilt by Atlanta in 2001, Stewart was second on the Falcons last season with 89 tackles, including 44 solo. The 25-year-old started all 16 regular-season games in 2004 and both of Atlanta's playoff contests, collecting a combined seven tackles. "Matt was somebody that we identified early on in the free agent process as someone we would like to have," Browns general manager Phil Savage said. "He can play either the outside or the inside linebacker position, which will provide us with some versatility as we transition into the 3-4 (defense)." The 6-3, 232-pound Stewart has appeared in 63 career games with the Falcons, including 45 starts, and has recorded 300 tackles. In 2003, he registered career highs with 108 tackles and 65 solo tackles while recovering two fumbles in 16 games. ------- is another rookie all we need??? :casstet: |

Uuuuh, Ed Hartwell still hasn\'t signed. He was the top UFA coming into the offseason.
