TeBucky's cap hit....
Saints | Jones' Cap Charge - from www.KFFL.com
Wed, 16 Mar 2005 08:47:55 -0800 Jeff Duncan, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports the release of S Tebucky Jones will eat up $4.40 million in salary cap space for the New Orleans Saints because of the acceleration of the prorated portions of the $6 million bonus package Jones received in 2003 and 2004. |

TeBucky's cap hit....
This year only.
They could\'ve spread it over this year and the next if they\'d waited until after June 1st to make the cut. But they chose (correctly, I think) to eat all of the hit now and be done with it. |

Around 1 million cap room... we now need to free up some money for our draft picks. Guess trading Howard soon is inevitable.

TeBucky's cap hit....
We\'ll be in better shape than that soon, I would hope. We know that a number of people on the roster aren\'t really needed... can we say Victor Riley? Cie Grant? Another LB or two? A TE or two?
I don\'t know how much space we\'re going to free up, but I imagine some people are going to get cut before the draft.... |

TeBucky's cap hit....
T-buck\'s salary was already inclued in our cap number. The increase is a mere 1.3 mil due to the acceleration of his bonus (that is the additional \"cap hit\" for cutting him). Though I still think it was stupid to release him and increase our cap punishment THIS YEAR, it will help us next year when we will have additional contract issues with the like of Horn, McAllister, and Brooks earning more.

TeBucky's cap hit....
Question, what is the fiscal year for NFL player salaries? IE, from what date to what date are salaries considered included for that calendar period?
For example, let\'s say that date was Jan 1st to Dec 31st. If I cut someone on April 15, the salary stays on the books until December 31st... but if I cut him on December 30th, he only counts as a cap hit for another day... Follow my question? |
