Should have double down on an OL instead of this hole patching approach. Jim Finks always said you have to have solid lines and we do not on either side. He's getting hammered, D getting smoked. No QB can function in that environment. They are either playing on their back or playing from behind.

Probably tired of losing because of substandard D's. Me to!!

Totally agree!!

He should have done a Tom Brady team friendly contract. We might have a better OL. Still, is this a sign that he is Denver bound?

He's tired of saying next year. Why did he not say something sooner?

I don't think a defense was gonna help with that terrible first half. Oh and wasting a TD drive on who else............Fleener. That MAY have been the game decider.

win and lose at the line of scrimmage. true true true.

Re: Unnerving Brees Quote

This is definitely not something we've heard from Brees since he's arrived in New Orleans but I can't blame him. Seems like every year he is saying optimistic things about next year but nothing has changed. Defense is always towards the bottom of the league, he seems to be getting hit a lot lately behind this OL and we miss on a lot of our draft picks. We've been 7-9 in 4 of the last 5 seasons. He's frustrated because he knows he doesn't have many more years left and he sees this team for what it is. We're a middle of the pack team that barring a big turnaround doesn't look like a team on the up.

The reversal on Fleener was BS! We have all seen the ball move a helluva lot more in other games and be called a TD; yes the ball moved, but he NEVER lost CONTROL of it!

I'm glad Brees finally dropped his guard and said it, rather than the usual coach/teamspeak and pretending the elephant in the room ain't there.

Nice to see him not being so PC... hate the PC culture.
Bree's deserves better, expect some big changes this off season. I don't see both Payton and Brees back, one or the other but not both.

Considering Brees is the contributing factor in some of those 7-9 seasons, he might want to do a better job of having his upper lip maintain contact with his lower lip!

Take a Brady cut in your salary and they might get you more protection...and sprinkle in some CB's who can cover. I don't feel sorry for you one bit.

Oh he lost control of it, alright... After he had already gone through what used to be the entire process of a catch. But you have to sign papers stating your intent, and show your visa before the process is completed now.

It's a stupid rule. But given what the BS rules are now, I couldn't understand how he managed to do all the hard parts of making that catch, only to inexplicably let it slip out when he made a relatively soft landing on the ground.

I am going to agree with you on the o-line, but disagree on the d-line. I think there is plenty of talent on the d-line, I think the Saints don't have the right D coaching staff.0

We definitely need help on O-line and D-line.
Honestly, we need lots of stuff.
We had high hopes for the defense when the season started but
injuries kind of killed that.
Scored enough points most weeks to win - couldn't stop anybody.
Another wasted +5000 yard sub .500 season.
It's a damn shame.

We scored enough points most weeks to win? What weeks were those?

The offense definitely had their ups and downs this year but lets look at the numbers...

Scored 20+ in 13 games. 8 teams (including the Giants and Texans who are in the playoffs) didn't average 20 ppg for the season.

Scored 30+ in 9 games.

29.3 ppg for the season, 2nd in the NFL

Meanwhile our defense was 31st in the NFL giving up 28.4 ppg.

By these numbers, the offense had plenty of weeks where they scored enough points. I don't get what your vendetta is with the offense. Sure it wasn't what we've seen when we were at our peak but our offense is better than most. However, you can't overlook how bad the defense has been not only this year but for a while now.

darstep 01-01-2017 11:37 PM

Re: Unnerving Brees Quote

Exactly!
If we hold teams to 2 touchdowns and 2 field goals we are at least 12-4.
And if we are holding teams to 20 or less that's even more possessions for our offense.

Re: Unnerving Brees Quote

Timay, you can't talk sense to some people. Many forget what we looked like coming into the season. If you go back to preseason and tell me you thought our offense would finish like it did, i'll call you a liar.

Our oline played better than expected. There are obvious holes on it at guard. Every team has its ups and downs. Our offense took days off but to sit and point to it as the reason our record is what it is, thats retarded. The mash unit of db's and crap ST play did us in this year.

The texans got lucky as hell playing in a crap division. They went 5-1 in division. Guess what their record outside of it was? 4-6.

And the giants who did they play? They got lucky with a three game home-stand against a mediocre eagles offense, depleted bengals, and the bears, the awful rams, the inept ravens offense, the browns. Like the saints could not beat THOSE teams.

And what makes you think we can be like the giants defense? You really think the giants defense was that bad before or did they quit? They had a culture of being a defensive team.

WE WILL NOT HAVE A DEFENSE LIKE THE GIANTS OR TEXANS ANYTIME SOON. The giants have always had a defensive philosophy.

And games we scored 30+ in 9 times.
Oakland..........okay I'll give you that.
Atl...................we lost this one mainly due to the fumble that set the stage.
@SD................we won though.
Car...................we won as well.
@SF..................defense played well too.
LA.....................it was a big game for Payton
@Arizona..........we won
@Atlanta..........13 points first half. Not normal against a bad defense like this team.

So defense lost 3 games we scored 30+ in.

As for 20+ games(besides those over 30)
@KC.....KC actually had 20 offensive points. Would have been 17. This is a team that went 12-4 btw and handed the broncos their behinds last week and won in OT in Denver week 12. Just torched a Bosa led offense.
Sea..........we won.
Den..........Michael Thomas 3 fumbles and they knew what they were getting their selves into targeting him against a top secondary. And game was lost on special teams. But Brees as usual got off to a slow start.
@Car-Car had 3 points before Brees throws a pick six. Offense played poorly all game until the fourth q and wasting a lot of clock.
TB....we won and got two interceptions.

So tell me again how the offense did enough to win? You don't wait until the second half to score points.

I disagree with the chiefs and broncos. We gave up 25 and 27 points. Bree's can't win the all. Th def nose should be able to win a game or two.

No we did not we gave up 20 and 23 and some of those 23 points came off Thomas's fumbles.

You can't be serious and blame the defense for those games. If you are, your f***ing pathetic as fan.

Well that's a little hard to do if we turn the ball over don't you think? And you are not gonna hold Brady or Rodgers to 20 without scoring yourself. And now you can add Cam and Ryan to that list. We're not playing 2009 offenses anymore. You can make the argument that Semien was a bad qb but the turnovers led to Denver scoring more points than 13. Brees threw a pick six and Ingram fumbled which led to a FG by KC.

You can disagree, but the Chiefs game Drew threw an INT returned for a TD, so that makes it 20 points the defense gave up not 27. Ingram had two fumbles, and one of those was within the 20 yard line of the Chiefs.

The Broncos game was again the fault of the offense. Thomas had two costly fumbles and Drew threw an INT. PLus 2 of the points were on ST blocked Extra Point, so actually the d let up 23 that game. But besides that let's look at the Broncos starting field position. The interception let them start at our 39, and then fumbled let them start at our 27. Then we fumbled at our own 20.
So three of their drives started at our 39, 27, and 20.

Broncos scoring drives:
85 yards TD
7 yards FG
27 yards TD
43yards FG
2 yards FG

2 of those drives they didn't even get a first down.

Like I said, the Offense cost us 5 games

I'd say 6 games were on the offense, Brees threw 3 interceptions vs the Lions when we still had a chance at the post season.

In all fairness, I understand Brees getting annoyed of saying next year, we all are. However, when the playoff spot was on the line, Brees threw 6 ints and 0 TD's so he is not without blame.

Look at the bigger picture

NY game - offense scored 13 points
Panthers game - 3 turnovers by the offense
Broncos game - 4 turnovers by the offense

The ST didn't help with blocked kicks, but the offense screwed the team over which led to the loss.

The offense Job is to move the ball up the field(efficiently) and score....defense job is to get TO's stop them from scoring or hold them to field goals or at the very least making the Offense work for EVERY inch they attempt to gain in the process...Where our offense is ranked and where our Defense is ranked tells the whole story of who might have been more responsible for this losing season...let's be real here

NY game-we make a field goal we win(we missed it). Panthers game-make the field goal before half time we win(it was blocked and lead to a panthers TD right before half) oh yea defense needed 1 3rd down stop to get the ball back with a chance to win...what do we do? give up the 3rd Kelvin Benjamin playing scared Zone D, Broncos game-even with those TO's manage to score, all we need is the extra point for the lead what happen...BLOCKED Extra point Offense didn't lose those games
