The deal includes $17 million in total guarantees, $8.4 million signing bonus and a salary-cap figure of $3.8 million in 2017. Expensive -- but not bad value for the Saints, who were also in the mix for guard Kevin Zeitler, who reportedly got $12 million per year from the Browns.

We didn't get Zeitler he signed with the Browns. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...ith-cleveland/

We didn't sign an impact pass rusher or DE after JG. That's a fact.

Your argument is that in the past 3 years, there hasn't been an impact pass rusher on planet earth available.

Ridiculous.

As I have already said , enlighten me. Name just one.

Nick Fairley's deal with the Saints is worth $28 million over four years ($7 million per year) plus another $500,000 per year in not-likely-to-be-earned sack incentives. He got an $8 million signing bonus and a total of $14 million in guarantees. His 2017 cap hit is $3 million. This is pretty much the exact deal I would have written up for Fairley if I was an independent arbitrator. He finally earned a lucrative long-term extension after a career-best season, but the Saints didn't have to overpay to keep him.

Plus with only $14 million guaranteed we can cut him after the 2nd year if things aren't going well for whatever reason.

Yeah Nick Underhill guessed we're around $13.2 million in cap space.

DE/OLB Datone Jones, DE, Packers (27) (26) / 6'4' / 285 / Rd. 1 (26) / GB

Datone Jones was drafted to be a five-technique, but was moved to outside linebacker. He did well there in 2015, but regressed a bit in 2016. He still has a ton of talent as a former first-round pick, however, and perhaps he'll improve once his role becomes fully defined.

Move him back to his old college position at DE from OLB which worked out so so. At the very least he would be an active part of a rotation and improve the depth at a thin DE position for the saints. should not break the bank to bad.

Still out there and probably had on a prove it contract
Jarvis Jones DE/OLB Pittsburgh 26 / 6'3' / 248 / 4.90 / 2013 / Rd. 1 (17) / PIT

I wonder why we didn't a least talk to J Peppers? Definite upgrade and gives us exactly what we needed. The guy is ageless...

Too light to play DE and not good against the run.

I was thinking the same thing when Dwight Freeney was out there last year
