well whether it's SP's fault or not is irrelevant, the fact that he keeps going 7-9 is what matters

Can you not understand how that sounds? Are you serious?

we are 7-9 3 straight years and it has happened almost identically, do you understand how that appears. It is a trend sir. I hope we win the sb next year, but 7-9 3 straight years cannot continued to be blamed on injuries.

All these excuses about injuries blah blah blah - I guarantee you every team playing in the post season this year and for the past 50+ years in the NFL had to deal with injuries. The good coaches/GM's overcome that with good drafting, picking up good FA's, and coaching. Honestly, I think Loomis is more to blame than Payton, but Payton had a big hand in all 3 factors that I mentioned above.

Only this season can be blamed on injuries. The previous two season's failure were based upon crappy defense. Considering the defensive scheme was being rotated annually that is not surprising. A healthy defensive roster coupled with a consistent scheme has to be more successful.

What did I say? Brees and Payton stay. They are an institution in NOLA. Changing the HC here isn't a guarantee anyway.

But considering the Rams just fired a coach that went 7-9, 6-10, 7-9 and 7-8-1 from 2012-2015, why would they want to pay the largest ever contract to a coach that just hauled in his 3rd consecutive 7-9 season?

Because fans...

"OFFENSE!!!"
"He won SB".
"His FO doesn't get him the right players".
"Needs change of scenery".
"Playing in 2nd largest NFL market will re-energize him".
"If he did all of that with Brees, imagine what can he do with Goff".
"If he can lead the Saints to the SB..."
etc. etc. etc.

Fans like new shiny things, and Payton would definitely qualify as a shiny new thing.

Objectively, all NFL teams have to deal with injuries. It's just part of the game. If you look at the Saints website, the 7-9 Saints list 12 players in IR; the 11-5 Giants list 11... The 12-4 Chiefs list 5 players on defense... the 7-8-1 Cardinals list 13...

Now, I am not going to present and in-depth study of injuries in the NFL, but there are valid questions that can be posed, like what causes your team to consistently, year after year, have an inordinate amount of injuries that prevent players from playing? Surely the game is hard enough, and most players play hurt to some level... but, is the team doing enough to prevent injuries? Is the training staff doing its job in properly preparing players for games? Is the medical staff doing enough to diagnose and prevent injuries? Is the team disregarding, or not able to properly assess, the health of players when they are signed?

Now, who's responsible for overseeing all of that? I don't know. BUT, given what we know of Payton, would you be surprised if, say, the training staff was not up to par, and Payton refuses to dismiss it?

Yeah its not like the Saints have a history full of great HCs but i bet there are some people here that still dream of the glory Days under Haslett.

we had just as many injuries bro. '14 too if I remember correctly since we were starting the likes of Terrence Frederick

When you're losing everyone goes to IR, that's the secret coaches friend.

Just want to make sure that the 7-9 seasons haven't been a result of poor FA judgement and drafting? Cause we have got a lot out of Byrd, Champ, laurinaitis, Browner, Spiller

Don't even get us started on the draft classes over the last 5 seasons.

Maybe the problems are poor cap management for years, bad FA contracts and signings, and poor draft evaluations. Yeah, that seems fairly accurate.
