I agree.
But considering the Rams just fired a coach that went 7-9, 6-10, 7-9 and 7-8-1 from 2012-2015, why would they want to pay the largest ever contract to a coach that just hauled in his 3rd consecutive 7-9 season?

"He won SB".
"His FO doesn't get him the right players".
"Needs change of scenery".
"Playing in 2nd largest NFL market will re-energize him".
"If he did all of that with Brees, imagine what can he do with Goff".
"If he can lead the Saints to the SB..."
etc. etc. etc.

Fans like new shiny things, and Payton would definitely qualify as a shiny new thing.
