Honestly I have no idea how the MLB spot is going to shake out but I do know that we actually have talent, depth ad a proven LB coach. That's something we haven't been able to say in quite a while. Whoever starts will do so because the coaching staff feels they are best suited to help us win. I don't expect Nolan to sugar coat anything. Give him a couple of months more to study film and watch the linebackers as a group.

FWIW, I hope Stephone gets his job back in year #3. I refuse to give up on him.

I go back and look at footage from Stephone Anthony's rookie season and I don't care what ProFootballFocus says... That guy looked so damn good. His ability to knife through the traffic and stop a RB dead in his tracks is truly special. Considering the insurmountable evidence that Rob Ryan has no idea how to call a defense I almost can't believe we didn't show more faith in Anthony after that season.

Awfully high for a guy that has failed to meet expectations - both his draft status and his own...

I don't know. He was playing as well, if not better, than anyone else on the defense last season when he was forced to take that suspension. He finished 4th on the team in both solo and combined tackles and only played 11 games. He had two picks and two forced fumbles which tied the team lead in both categories. He led the team in total turnovers. You must remember that players are often limited by the play around them. We lost SIX CB's last year to injury. That has to affect the entire secondary.

Kenny V is solid but not the impact player we need.

Saints FO have drafted two safeties in the second round 2 years in a row makes me wonder.

If used to his strengths and with a supporting cast he may be that impact player. As for the two safeties drafted the last two years ... both are very talented and hard to pass up at that point especially with the more and more commonly utilized three safety sets.

See I've always been under the impression that Vaccaro's role as nickel CB/moneybacker was born out of us not having good CB depth or LB's who can cover. If our CB's stay healthy and we can actually put a legitimate nickel CB on the field, and our revamped LB corp can help in pass defense... Will Vaccaro thrive as a more traditional safety or will his weaknesses be exposed?

Vaccaro is good. Our defense has largely been a product of underwhelming pass rush and running out of depth at certain positions.

You may see him miss a play and not realize that the reason he's out of position is because he's feeling the pressure of trying to do not only his job but everyone else's.

With the talent we're acquiring now, and hopefully the improved pass rush, you could see a much better version of KV this year.

Just my two.

I should clarify what I mean when I question if his weaknesses will be exposed. He's made a pretty good impact playing in the box, but the talk out of minicamp was that we're going to disguise coverages a lot more now that we have a good, versatile group of safeties. Vaccaro will be asked to play in a deeper zone more often because it's unexpected. That's never been his strong suit. I'm not saying he can't do it... Maybe he'll thrive. We won't know until it happens.

Kenny as a true safety?
he has not developed into that roll yet and probably never will live up to first round pick value.

Kenny as a chess piece to move around and play a LB/S roll?
This is his specialty and he is one of the better ones in the NFL.

Just do not over pay the toy in 2018.

But Rob Roy had his dream and Pro Bowl SS Malcolm Jenkins was not part of that dream. So two first round picks spent on one position. Bit costly for a S/LB

Rob Ryan was the biggest mistake of the Sean Payton Era
