First Annual Black & Gold Pretend General Manager Championship
First Annual Black & Gold Pretend General Manager Championship
Over the years I have noticed the painstaking work put into the annual NFL draft by several members of the Black & Gold community. How many untold hours have been spent pouring over countless periodicals, websites and other unseemly sources to compile lists of generally unrecognizable names in hopes of their work making its way onto the Saints’ Superdome turf? What rewards are these heroic few given for their tireless efforts come draft day? The result is usually the utter frustration of their finely tuned list of finalists being ignored by those truly in charge. Thus the inception of the first ever Black & Gold Pretend General Manager Championship! The PGNC was developed as a vehicle to give recognition to the most outstanding Pretend General Manager on Black & Gold and to give myself some way of trying to understand the passion of these fearless few. And this is how it will work. First, prospective PGM’s must register their wishes to compete in this thread. Deadline for entry will be April 1, 2017. (Any association with April Fool’s Day is purely coincidental.) Pick Submission All participants will be required to submit an ordered list of two projected draftees for each slotted pick for that day by the New Orleans Saints at least one hour prior to the first pick of that day’s round(s). Thus, PGM’s will be given the opportunity to “regroup” after each of the first two days of the draft to lick their wounds and rethink their lists. Scoring Scoring will be recorded on a per pick basis with three (3) points being awarded for a successful matching of the first choice of the PGM to the actual pick by the Saints Front Office Selection Committee (Sean Payton). One (1) point will be awarded if the PGM’s second choice matches that of the SFOSC for that designated pick slot. If the PGM fails to match with either choice they will suffer a penalty of negative one (-1) for their efforts. Scoring will be tracked in the opening post. Contingencies In the case of a traded pick, if said trade results in a selection within the same round of the draft, the PGM’s selections will apply to the pick at the new position. If trade results in a move to another round of the same day of the draft, the PGMs will be given the opportunity to submit a new set of two ordered choices for the new slot if posted in this thread prior to the first pick in the NEXT round, not the first pick in the NEW round. In the case of a trade to a round in a subsequent day, the selections for the traded slot will be ignored and the new slot will be addressed in the “regrouping” period. The Championship will be awarded to the Pretend General Manager with either the highest positive point total or the least negative total at the end of the draft, as the case may be. Prizes (PM me if you have other prizes to donate to the cause) Prizes will include a CD of original songs written and performed by Cameron Merrell. Videos of three songs appearing on the CD can be found at In a Little While. Remember PGM’s, to be successful your picks must be based upon what you project the SFOSC will do as opposed to what you would do if you were the SFOSC. May the best PGM win! Note: All results are final and all determinations will be made by myself. Prize to be determined. |

Thank you, AsylumGuido.
I have stickied this thread until the draft is over. This should be fun! | |

Re: First Annual Black & Gold Pretend General Manager Championship
Guido,
Interesting idea. I have no interest in participating, but am interested in seeing the results. I do have one suggestion though. The Registration deadline of April 1st is likely too late to capture the full scope of offseason personnel changes. A significant number of those changes involve the release of current personnel, the tagging of potential unrestricted free agents, and the entire pro personnel side of free agency. By April 1st all of that will be over. According to Important NFL dates for 2016-17 - NFL.com the first upcoming date in terms of personnel changes is the potential tagging of free agents by February 15th. Free agency starts on March 9th. I was just thinking how could that part of the process be captured. Again I think it's an interesting idea. SFIAH |

Only Atlanta choked in an unchokable situation... Life is definitely good. |

To make the process finite and somewhat easy to "score", I based it solely upon the draft.

How could the pro personnel part of the process be captured and scored? points for tagging the right player (or no tag applied). Points for choosing the right free agent? Points for predicting players to be released? The reason is that by the draft, the Saints roster is going to be different than it is now. And that impacts the draft. I'll get out the way now. And if Halo likes, he can simply declutter this thread of my posts. But when I think of the last time the Saints had a drafted QB play significant time for example (Danny Wuerffel, 1997), it's clear to me that a GM, even a pretend one, cannot be effectively scored only on the draft. Re: First Annual Black & Gold Pretend General Manager Championship
Excellent Guido ,
ST loves the contest and the moves by a GM is so credible in the nfl today i don't know if i can make the cut of a pretend GM but i will be interested in trying. We all love the draft and the prediction is concerning to all black and gold fans.why does our staff pick totally opposite of our fans sometimes is remarkable, but what do we know right, maybe the front office ought to pay attention to the BnG boys and girls |
