I think this is the point. Nope, your right we will never know this and with the state of the saints defense I would think it will be a few years till we can answer that question For now it is saddle up the doggies and let "the greatest show on turf" be our battle cry. This is the only way the saints will not only make the play offs but mange to stick around. Saints offense needs to become so dominate again that the defense improve just enough to turn a bunch of those 7s they surrounded into 3s. Forcing teams to throw to ball to cover up the weaknesses in the defense. I would have a goal for 2017 of bend and break less. K.I.S.S. approach. Nothing flashy up front just solid all around player, It would be an off season dealing with the second level. In an old school defensive battle is a question we a far from being able of answering. |

Some say that if the saints had a better defense they would win more games(but with oline improvement they would have won 12 games compared to 11 with defense). Some say that if special teams improve Brees would have better field position to work with. So let's say all of this stuff happens next year. We improve the oline, we improve the defense, and we improve the special teams. If the special teams and defense improve, then Brees and the offense is in better field position. But if the oline is improved, we will not know if it would not have helped without the first two aforementioned phases. The oline could help us in maybe four drives starting at the 20 in a given game. But we may be taking a giant step forward instead of the next step forward pending how this offseason goes. The defense and special teams furthermore will overshadow any oline improvement. It will be the issue that was swept under the rug in the medias eyes. But to us, those of us in the know about the offense will point to oline improvement if offense does score more points next year(even if off of turnovers and drives starting at 50). But the defense fans have been so sure that the oline is fine and it doesn't need any improving to win games if the defense is improved and special teams. And they will toot their horn on this being why the team scores more points. Which is why I am against all three phases this offseason being worked on. Work on defense and special teams. But I want the defense fans to back up what they claim.: that our offensive line is fine the way it is. Because if offense has changes made for better, we won't really know if it's why we are really winning because the defense/ST will overshadow everything. |

Special teams is the one I think is gonna be a challenge because the return game hinges of the quality of player doing the returns as much as coaching.
