2017 NFL Calendar Year: Franchise Tags Begin

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; What's the deal with Cincy?! Why in the world are they letting Zeitler walk? Is there more to it or are they just inept?...

Do you see this happening with Zeitler?

14 million for a guard? Curious to see what his asking price is...

I'm figuring he's looking for a four/five year deal a little better than Kelechi Osemele's deal of 60mil/5 years (12 mil/annum)...

So it would make sense to tag him; however, Cincy may have a guard that can produce at a slightly less rate for a whole let less money...

but if they tag him it will cost 14, and with what they have to worry about, I don't think they can afford it

Right, well my point is that if they want to keep him, it makes sense to tag him as there's not a whole lot of difference between 12.5 mil (expected number) and 14 mil (tag cost)...

The thing is: Do they want to commit that much cap to a guard?

For the Saints, I can see it as we did it for Jahri Evans and our offense is built with a greater importanct on the interior linemen...

For the Bengals, they may be more concerned with their tackles...

If Zeitler gets to the open market, the Saints must make a play for him...

Going cheaper for someone like Leary will be a just throwing away money...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

I am interested. Like u said guards are the most crucial part of the line right now with the way Brees plays. Unless they plan on changing things up for the future.

What's the difference in that than Jahri Evans?!?

We'd be gettin a player ENTERING his prime rather than paying a descending player...

And if you factor the inflation rate on the cap, that would be the same kinda money?!?

If he puts our O Line and team over the top, why do you not do it?!?

JP, I could agree about him being able to put the O over the top but not the entire team. We lack to many pieces on D that needs fixed, although we might not see the positions the same on the D side, our O can be fixed easily with a couple players. I'm not knocking him and really think he would be great but thats a great deal of money to give 1 player at 1 position when that money could help fix a few positions on the side that has constantly cost us year in and year out since Payton has been here. I would love to have him don't get me wrong but thats a steep price tag to pay for a O that ranks as high as ours already.

I agree.
our offense was first, defense worst.
if we are going to sign the highest paid guy at his position, it can't be on offense
