I want the answer. I want the truth. I"m 23 years old. That's 23 years of pain. That's 23 years of suffering. That's 23 years of being a Saints fan. Can someone out there tell me why after all these years the Saints haven't made a deep playoff run?
I've never expected them to win a Super Bowl, I'm not asking for miracles. I have no delusions. But is too much to ask for them to win a few playoff games? To make it to the NFC championship at least? If the Cubs can make it to game 7 of the NLCS and the Red Sox can win the World Series, why can't the Saints make a playoff run? What's the answer. What's the reason? A curse? Bad coaching, bad players, bad owners? I've been a Saints fan for 23 years. If you cut my arm, my blood would be balck and gold. For 23 years I've watched them destroy the hopes and dreams of a nation of Saints fans. I thank God that I cant remember the first four or five of my 23 years. I take comfort in the fact that there are alot of old poor souls that have lived through this pain alot longer than I have. Can one of you older seasoned vets give me the answer. Can one of you tell me why the Saints are doomed to failure no matter how good a team they have? I want your answers and I want to know the reason that we all keep rooting for a team that may never reach the promised land. |

I can\'t tell you why the Saints can never make a run. You can blame it on management, player performances, a missed field goal, coaching, poor drafting, the list goes on and on.
I can tell you that lots of teams have gone through the dry spel (though few have had a dry spell for 30 years)l. The Saints will make it to the Super Bowl...eventually. Why we keep rooting a team that never goes anywhere? Well, we are fans. Real fans don\'t jump to another wagon because their team sucks. The Bucs were an even bigger joke than the Saints until the last 5 or 6 years. You have to stick with them. The way I see it, when the Saints finally get over the hump and go to the SB, it\'ll make it that much better. As far as the teams performance....well...um....no excuses. They have the set-up, just missing a few KEY pieces. I just go into every season hoping that they will get their sh*t together and make a run. The key: Have FAITH. Nothing else to say. It is frustrating and irritating to watch a team that should do better, step on their d**ks and give the freakin game away. Or just get blown out. All I can say is, they will make it to a SB one day, just pray it is while they are in New Orleans. |

In all seriousness though, my best bet is that there is no one thing that has caused this. If I were to put money on it, I would even bet that it is different things in different years.

Mecom was a tight-wad, even worse than Benson. The team developed a reputaion as being losers during that time. Now it is hard to coax people to come play here, and the players are having difficulty shedding that \"losers\" label. That, combined with the curse, about sums it up.

Two of the old popular rumors:
\"The Superdome is built on a graveyard. Bad Karma.\" \"The Saints are run by the New Orleans Mafia. They will never win as long as all that money is on the line for them to lose.\" |

right as eup said, be thankful only that many years. i have been a saints fan since their inception. it took 20 years, my entire adolescence to a 2nd marriage and having kids, before they even had a winning record. 32-32 for four years? no problemo, these are glory years compared to then.
the mecom era and nfl were a different world then. many teams were as absolutely dreadful every year as playoff bound were the boys, raiders, etc. success comes even more now than then from the organization. the patriots certainly do not have a star studded lineup like previous dynasties. the steelers are never too far from contention year in and year out cuz of the front office. the niners had a change of ownership and front office before they crumbled to where they are now. you can see the rise n fall of organizations with the leaders and owners who come n go. the saints best years? jim finks a hall of fame exec. loomis? i am not betting on him being moses. benson as an owner? well, we are lucky there is a salary cap minimum as well as maximum. they aren\'t doomed anymore than the red sox were doomed. it just takes the right organization. no troops go beyond their general\'s leadership. take heart, the lions haven\'t been much or won a championship since 1957 and the cardinals not since 1947 when in chicago before arizona and st. louis. that\'s 10 and 20 years before the saints even were started. all things even every team would win a super bowl every 32 years. let\'s just say the saints are 6 years overdue. LOL keep the faith brutha, ya got what it takes if you be a b&g nut and be a van gogh fan too [Edited on 21/3/2005 by LKelley67] |
