I do recall that & his name came up quite a bit at camp prior to the injury. Hopefully Erik is 100%.

Kind of crazy seeing we run a 3 safety set some of the time. Wonder if they have their eye on someone in FA. It pretty much guarantees they draft and sign someone. How great would it be to see Adams fall to us in rd 1!!!!!

From a cap standpoint, when Byrd was a healthy bench, he was done; and I believe you play rookies and let them get real experience, not practice for three years...
Maybe coaches knew they didn't have a contender so they went with Bell, who I admit, I didn't like the pick (two picks for one)...

And though Bell didn't grade well, I saw some pop and energy I hadn't seen at the position for the Saints since the other Bush left for Detroit...

Just know that Jairus Byrd aka Roger Dorn wasn't getting it done; why pay that money when we're still were last in passing defense?

While I agree JB wasn't getting done, I will say he didn't have the supporting cast around him. It's difficult for a FS to succeed when the secondary around him is weak & he's playing a role that doesn't fit his ability.

I think the signing of Harper made him expendable

Good luck finding a replacement at that price equal or better than Byrd. If they were so inclined to get rid of him, why not let JB play out this season and then cut him next year when it cost them nothing? In my opinion, we've created a hole. What am I missing here?

Cap Guru's, feel free to chime in.

i think cutting him next year still costs us like 3.5 mil or so, so basically making him, if we do, a post june 1 cut saves us 7.2 or something this year, pushes 4 to next year which we would have paid cutting him next year anyway.

Ya just can't get paid like that if you're not playing like that. I wish him well but happy to see we're about to move on...

S - Bye Bye Jairus Byrd? Cap Saving 2017 $3.7m 2018 $7.6m 2019 $9m
"Before this move, New Orleans was projected to have something around $30 million in cap space this offseason. Cutting Byrd straight up would save $3.2 million against the cap. If he is designated as a post-June 1 cut, the Saints can spread his dead money over two seasons, which would save them $7.8 million this season."

$2.4 to $5.25 million Contract Range

Could sign both and keep Kenny as the LB/S he is so good at

Duron Harmon, FS, New England Patriots (26) / 6'1' / 205 / Rd. 3 (91) / NE
A nickel safety trapped behind Devin McCourty and Patrick Chung has proven ability to play deep off the line of scrimmage and still influence play. Harmon has shown his adept skills in pass coverage and tracking down the football downfield and has made big plays for the team, Teams have no shortage of strong safety options, but a legitimate talent at free safety is a rare prize. He has helped in coverage, but not necessarily in one-on-one situations all that often.Belichick has spoken very highly of Harmon, including saying “He’s smart, he works hard, he studies, he trains hard” and even going as far as to say “Duron is, I’d say every team, or most every team I’ve ever coached, there are always a couple guys on the team that I would say, for lack of a better word, that are silent leaders” He is the guy to look to for a big pass break-up, or great coverage downfield, or the big-time interception when needed.

Micah Hyde FS/SS Green Bay Packers 26 / 6'0' / 197 / Rd. 5 (159) / GB
He is a dependable player who offers versatility. Hyde is capable of playing both free and strong safety. Hyde has showcased consistent football despite being trapped in a rotation with HaHa Clinton-Dix and Morgan Burnett in his tenure with the Packers. Hyde has racked up 227 tackles, 24 passes defensed, eight interceptions and four sacks in 63 career games. In addition, Hyde has punt return capabilities, recording three touchdowns throughout his career. He’ll most likely be searching for a starting opportunity.
