Why is it idiotic? At one point Vonn Bell was inserted for Byrd even though Byrd was healthy.

Why pay that money to a player who's in a reduced role or even benched? Now that would be idiotic.

We're finally seeing this front office get its proverbial act together because 3 7-9 finishes has them on notice.

If we continue to see the improvement with regards to Draft Management and Scouting, we should see that 7-9 mark improve as well as the talent improves...

Bell was border line bad last year. Rookie lumps? Maybe... JP, man I hope you are right but it's a risk. Moves like this make me wonder if the Saints FO is clearing cap space to make a "splash" on spending more than necessary in FA.

agree, but no one (including Loomis) has any idea what the market price will be for Fairley, Zeitler, Peterson, or hell, even Romo. Clearing another 3 million seems like a pittance for losing a player like Byrd.
My thought is, why gamble for another 3-4 million when you have 30 million to use now?

The real question is who in the heck are the Browns going to spend all that money on with all of the big names coming off the market/getting tagged ?

From a cap standpoint, when Byrd was a healthy bench, he was done; and I believe you play rookies and let them get real experience, not practice for three years...
Maybe coaches knew they didn't have a contender so they went with Bell, who I admit, I didn't like the pick (two picks for one)...

And though Bell didn't grade well, I saw some pop and energy I hadn't seen at the position for the Saints since the other Bush left for Detroit...

Just know that Jairus Byrd aka Roger Dorn wasn't getting it done; why pay that money when we're still were last in passing defense?

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

While I agree JB wasn't getting done, I will say he didn't have the supporting cast around him. It's difficult for a FS to succeed when the secondary around him is weak & he's playing a role that doesn't fit his ability.

The league allows each team to designate up to two players per year as a June 1 cut for cap purposes prior to June 1. It’s the one concession that was given to the players as it allows a player to be cut in March and have time to explore free agency but have his cap hit spread out over two seasons, thus creating more cap space in the current year. The issue though is the mechanism by which this works.

When you designate someone as a June 1 cut the player and his current contract remain on the books until June 1.

yes, we could get 7.2 freed this year, but that means we carry an extra $4 million into next year. It's deferred, but not eliminated. We are arguing that since we already have $30, why do we need more right now?

The guy finally gets healthy and we prematurely cut him. Restructure at the least. Bell didn't look ready.
