Bring back Chase Daniel?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I was really hoping Garrett Grayson showed major progress by now. He can't even beat out Luke McCown. I'm looking at the 3rd round of the draft when we took him. Here's who all was still on the board: David ...

David Johnson, RB, Arizona Cardinals
Ty Montgomery, RB/WR, Green Bay Packers
Jamison Crowder, WR, Washington Redskins
Jeremy Langford, RB, Chicago Bears
Stefon Diggs, WR, Minnesota Vikings
Brett Hundley, QB, Green Bay Packers (Who I believe has major potential.)
Jay Ajayi, RB, Miami Dolphins

You know what hurts more in that draft? We could've had CB Marcus Peters (who the Saints staff even went to dinner the night before his Pro Day) and instead we took Andrus Peat.

Now, I've got no problem with Peat; I've been arguing here that he should be the Left Tackle, his most natural position and Terron Armstead should be moved to Right Tackle with his speed and athleticism...

And now that we've gone another season with Armstead not playing a full season, we're still trying to force Peat to play at Guard!!!

The thing about drafting quarterbacks on the second day, you should expect them to be starters by their third year or being the primary backup to a HOF quarterback; otherwise, you should be moving on...

Re: Bring back Chase Daniel?

While I still hold my ground that I do not believe Chase is an upgrade over McNown, I am seeing things with a little different twist. The Saints will absolutely need to keep 3 QB's this year, the chances of Brees leaving after 2017 is very high in my opinion. It wouldn't be a total washout having Chase and Luke McNown battle it out for the starting job while the Saints attempt to groom a franchise QB prospect. That option to me would be better than bringing in someone like Kap or Cutler... All speculation of course, I sure as heck don't know what's really going on...

And you are Always wrong on that. RT don't need speed an athleticism unless the QB is a leftie and that is his blind side. A regular RT needs to be a road grader in the running game and able to handle himself some in the passing game.

The only plus side i can see with Chase is he knows tbe sytem. He is a younger back up who could fill in for a year or two if Drew wasn't there and we can make the Eagles cover most of his salary as they have to pay him

Well in your own words, you allude to the run game which I believe Armstead, the better runner, has the advantage...

Also we used to run our most successful bubble routes and screens with Pierre Thomas on the right side...

The NFL is about creating mismatches and Armstead's speed on the right would definitely be a mismatch...

Re: Bring back Chase Daniel?

One of the main reasons for the screens and bubbles being successful on the right side is/was Jahri Evans who was very mobile and athletic. The interior line is often much more important on such plays than the tackles who invites their guy upfield most of the time.

And no, in the running game you don't need to be a good runner yourself to be a good runblocker. You need to be a big, powerful chunk of man able to physically dominate the guy in front of you.
Being the LT however you need to be fast and nimble since you need to keep yourself between the DE and the QB.
The perfect tackle is both big and powerful and quick and nimble at the same time. Finding humans that has those qualities on an NFL level is quite challenging thou. I'd say that there are probably fewer than 50 of those around in the world at any given time.
And if you happen to have one, you put him at LT since a lesser athlete can man the RT spot without it being much of a problem.

W.T. Sherman is my favorite General. After all he did order Atlanta to be burned to the ground.

P.J Williams,
Trey Flowers,
Ty Montgomery,
Stefon Diggs

Garrett Grayson was an after thought much later in the draft. UDFA Actually I had absolutely no interest in a QB that year.

Then again DeVante Parker was my pick at 11 so Peat looks like solid choice. I wanted to trade down so bad.

Davis Webb bottom of the 3rd?

Luke McCown vs Chase Daniel is pretty much an even race though i have always like Luke. he is one tough customer

Why do you feel the chances of Brees leaving are high after this season? Seriously. You must have tangible reasons. I see the exact opposite and have no doubt his plans are to play several more years on year to year deals (just like Peyton Manning did with the same agent) and spend all of those years with the Saints. I believe him. What are your reasons?
