If Payton is the coach when Brees leaves, a rookie QB isn't going to walk through the door and be an automatic. The system is not easy and is pass happy. I would love to see Watson at #11. He has all the skills, would thrive with sitting for a year, and has enough ability to win this season if necessary. If the defense isn't middle of the road, it isn't going to matter anyway.

We have brought in several QBs over the past few years...none of them panned out. It's the hardest position to fill and the team has been working on it. Mark Sanchez just got signed again...he's terrible but keeps getting gigs because of how hard it is to find a good QB, let alone an elite one. Osweiller is on his 3rd team already.

if there is still a burning desire after brees is gone: Payton will have to prove to everyone that it just was'nt brees who made brees a HOFer , i believe coach will want to prove his scheme and coaching will create the next drew brees. but it has to want it as bad as payton, if not you will go thru 8-10 qbs like any other team and land 0. is it manzel doubt it big time he wont put in the work. who d. watson ? mahones? take a pick.

why worry bout brees now this guy could play as long as his arm allows, 6-7 more record breaking years ,with or without new orleans. i want him doing it here though.

As a point of reference, I just heard an interview with Bob Kraft and he said Tom Brady told him just three days ago that he is seriously planning on playing for the Patriots another six to seven years.

Just based upon that, I can honestly see Brees playing with the Saints for at least another five years.

I think we are preparing for life without Brees just like we have for the past 7 or so seasons... lol. We have this discussion every year. I think it started when we drafted Chase Daniels.

Brees needs 5829 years to break the passing record. He needs 74 tds for the record. 464 completions for the record. 17 4th quarter comebacks. For th love of God keep him 3 more years. He has the ability to play that long and could have every NFL passing record. I know we need to win but their is no other option out there right now that could outplay drew. Hold off another year to draft his replacement and sign him to a two year extension.

You cannot compare a QB's of today that take such good care of themselves year round, especially Brady and Brees, to the average NFL QB as recently as 15-20 years ago. The advancements in the last decade alone in diet, nutrition, training and medicine has had a great affect. Athletes like Brady and Brees are already proving history wrong ... or at least just that, history. Welcome to the present!
