Optimistic vs. Pessmistic?
I'm sure everyone wants to be "optimistic" about this upcoming season ... RIGHT?
But, for some that is impossible. It's been explained in detail to me why some can't be opitimistc. Just look at the following: a.) Four straight seasons without a playoff apperance. b.) Same coaches. c.) Free agencey didn't take care of need areas. d.) Brooks still the QB. Does that convince everyone to expect more of the same? Well, if you look at only that, then that's exactly what you should expect ... MORE OF THE SAME! But, contrary to what some say, there are some positives. a.) Four game winning streak at the end of 2004. Of course, because it was the Saints, it doesn't mean too much. But, don't be fooled fellow Saints' fans. Believe your eyes and not what some folks are trying to force-feed you. The defense came on very strong and it was no fluke. Just ask Jake Delhomme and the Panthers (who were the hottest team) about that Saints' defense. b.) Full season with Mike McKenzie and Dwight Smith: Teams WILL respect our secondary this year. This is probably the best secondary in the HISTORY of the Saints! c.) Charles Grant and Will Smith: Start counting the sacks. There will be many. d.) Courtney Watson and Cobly Bockwaldt: Not spectacular but it looks a hell of a lot more promising than years past. They don't have to be dominant for us to have a good defense. They just need to be good. Are there some concerns? You damn right. But ... there's no reason to not see a lot of positves. When you finish 32nd in defense, there are going to be some concerns unitl they prove themselves. That's just the way it is. But, let's not lose site of the positives while loolking only at the negatives. On offense ... There's much more reason to be optimistic rather than pessimistic here. The offensive line HAS improved. Deuce is healthy. We've got Joe Horn, Stallwoth, and Devery Henderson. Anyone here who can't get excited about the possibilities here? Our offense had an off year mainly due to an injury to Deuce and the offensive line. There's no reason to think they won't rebound. Now, all the mistakes from last year might rear their ugly head agiain. But, I, for one, I'm optimistic that we will be improved. [Edited on 23/3/2005 by GumboBC] |

Optimistic vs. Pessmistic?
For me, it is much too early to be optimistic. I don\'t even give it a whole lot of thought one way or another until the last preseason game has been played and we are about to begin the year. Depending on who is still standing at that time will determine whether I go into the season optimistic or pessimistic. Personally, I would love to see them just do away with preseason games totally, but I guess they have their reasons for playing them....to evaluate their new talent, I suppose.
I am happy with the additions, and would be almost as optimistic as Gumbo if we started the season with these guys and maybe three or four draft picks that pan out. I would like to see us get a real tackle and let Mayberry(sp?) play the guard spot that he feels more comfortable with. If Deuce, or Brooks, or one of the other starters goes down in the preseason or any time in the season, I would be very concerned about our depth at a few of the key positions. Optimistic vs. Pessmistic?
For this season I\'m going to use a new approach to my expectations. I plan to employ a little pessimistic optimism. I\'m not going to be too high on the team and I\'m not going to be too low on them either. Let the chips fall where they may.
If they go 3-13, oh well, maybe next year. If they go 8-8, oh well, at least they didn\'t regress. If they go 12-4 and win the Super Bowl, well that might be a problem because if I remember right, that is the first sign of the apocalypse. Oh well, at least all of our pain will be over if the world ends. |

Optimistic vs. Pessmistic?
a. 1 winning season and 3 non winning seasons , since a play off appearance . Certainly not living up too anything like the conditions Dungy or Green were fired for . b. Same Coaches ??? Pass the crack pipe , last I checked McCarthy was in San Fran and Hasbeen was going with his flunkie for some reason , most likely Brooks . c. The Saints failed again to address glaring holes in the defense and hope that the draft will be the answer . This will most likely be the set up for the once again statement by Hasbeen \" The defense needs time to gel \" . d. Brooks still the Qb . No kidding and notice a certain lack of challenging depth at the position . Bouman is a bust . Brooks should be seen as the lesser of 2 evils at the quarterback position , just the way Hasbeen likes it . |

Optimistic vs. Pessmistic?
I am always optomistic about the next upcoming season, always talking about how the new FA\'s could be the missing peices, as are the draftees. But, I have only been a Saints fan for 4 years, maybe the optomistic will hit in soon.
