Haslett doesn't have final say on personnel
From today's T-P:
quote:On the organization's personnel philosophy: "I don't think we had a really good understanding of what we were looking for, player-wise, or what we're trying to build until the last year or so. That's why Victor (Riley) is not coming back with us. We're getting better players in the locker room and better football players -- team guys. People always say, 'Well, why did Jim Haslett bring this guy in?' or 'Why did Jim Haslett draft this guy?' That's not always true. The head coach doesn't always have the final say on who you bring in or who you draft. I get involved in personnel as much as any of them (head coaches), but after the third round, I don't even know who these guys are. I didn't draft Colby Bockwoldt. I didn't know who he was. I didn't watch film on him. I didn't know anything about him. We were going on (pro scout) Bill Quinter's recommendation. The kid turns out to be a hell of a football player. Like Victor Riley. I didn't know who Victor Riley was when we brought him in." http://www.nola.com/saints/t-p/inde...79776251070.xml |
