Dallas gets Howard and #16 pick, we get #11 (DJ) and 2nd or 3rd. That is something i could live with. Just seems like we would be giving up alot for DJ (although I kno he is worth it) We need to at least pick up another pick for it all. |

No way --- although it makes sense to drop the cap hit Howard is a proven commodity and has been a leader on our defense -- Only way I would agree to that is if there were a free agent linebacker who we could use the freed up money to land -- then it would be a good deal

I would take D. Johnson and the ability to lock up our superstars over any linebacker Dallas has to give or for an extra late round pick.
This is about making the best out of a bad economic situation. We just cannot afford to pay top dollar to three defensive ends. I hate to lose Howard too, but we have to lose him to make our team more competitive in all areas. [Edited on 24/3/2005 by stockman311] |

I only think it\'s 50/50 he will be there. But if he is we need to make this trade.

I agree, but I think that we need to be compensated for Howard as well. Just because I good LB falls further, doesnt mean we need to lose out totally when we have other options on the table as well.

We are getting compensated for Howard. We would be moving into the top 12 of what most experts will tell you is a 12 deep impact player draft. After the top twelve the level of player really drops in talent level.

Yea, but at the expense of an already established Impact player and a pick only 5 picks later..........

moving up from 16 to 11 is a gain of 250 value points. getting their #42 outright is +480 points.
to get the deal done while dallas was on the clock would mean dallas and howard have ironclad contract terms already hammered out before the draft. that is possible but not likely in the pressure cooker of draft day. i think that is why haz said we\'ll try n get a deal done but if not done before draft day we will go with the 3 de\'s. i also think cleveland could take dj. there qb? charlie frye or andrew walter at #34 or #67. savage did get a good game managing qb in dilfer who led his previous tem to the superbowl. their pursuit of chester taylor shows me they might be going for a quicker turnaround than some 3 year building plan too. the lowest i see dj is at titans #6 or minny #7 (tice is serious about the defense turnaround and can get a good wideout at #18). minnesota has been mentioned as a team still in the mix for howard. #16 to #7 is +500 pts, better than dallas\' 2nd. do that move up and throw in a player, say e.j. henderson since he has been moved back on the depth chart, and it\'s a deal. |
