Good points made, no doubt. But if only one guy asks you to dance...

Better points made by SFIAH; we aren't changing for AP.
I agree that Ingram sees the biggest change, as he finds himself on the field more for 3rd down and less on 1-2. Sproles only ran for 1000 yards in 3 years here, 5-6 carries per game. Of course he caught more than that, averaging about 12 touches a game.
If AP got 10-12 carries a game and Ingram 3-4 more passing targets, we'd be in very good shape.

Wonder what the contract length is and if we left ourselves an out if it doesn't work out right. Would hate to see dead money.

But dang if this won't commit Payton to running the ball, nothing will.

Probably 2 years. First year guaranteed week one of the season. A roster bonus paid the first week of league year 2018. So a one year contract if he makes it through training camp that can become a two year contract if the season works out. No dead money to speak of.

Nothing will. I keep telling ya'll (and my own brother, who would prefer the Saints be LSU) that we have 10 seasons of evidence of the Payton-Carmichael-Brees DNA. They are not going to run the ball. They are not going to run the offense through the running game. They are not going to keep one package out on the field. That isn't the Saints offense, and nothing short of all three leaving the organization is going to change it.

The reason that Ingram is now the near perfect back for this system is that he runs the ball efficiently. He can get 15-18 touches and end up with over 100 scrimmage yards both running and catching the ball. AP isn't going to change that. AP isn't going to change the offense.

To improve the run game, improve the defense. The Saints run the ball when up by 10,14,17,21+ in the second half. Poor defense makes this a rarity.

An improved defense will make the rush game more effective. Having Ingram and AP pounding the ball in the 4th quarter will be effective.

But if the score is 35-27 with the Saints on the losing end, you can forget it.

I'm anxious for this deal to get finished and to see this play out on the field. We don't need AP to pound it 30 times a game, and he doesn't need that many carries to be effective. When we get up, we give them a heavy dose of AP and Ingram. Simple as that.

Why does it seem I see the stall tactic fail more than succeed?

AP needs to be given the rock week 1 at least because Drew is not shredding that defense on the road.
