I don't care if he's 32, he's still an upgrade over Hightower. That's not a knock on Hightower, it's just that AP is one of the best to ever do it. So if we replace a player with a better player, to me that's a good move. I don't think the FO would throw huge money at him and why would they?

As far as Ingram is concerned yeah he might get a little salty with AP taking away some carries but Ingram is at his best when he's mad. Ingram has played the best football of his career with Hightower there to push him. So you'd have Mark Ingram running angry and AP coming off the bench in relief. That would be a pretty solid one two punch. And if Ingram gets hurt then you have Adrian Peterson to replace him with.

Where is the downside???

No downside on the field. I just think he's an absolute piece of crap. Junior Galette still gets trashed and we're bringing in AP?

Jr was also a locker room cancer and twitter crybaby. APs problems were off the field and won't effect play or performance. I'll take a player like AP any day. It's not like Payton himself is a boyscout.

The problem with trying to debate something like this is that we'll just be totally speculating because none of us were in these locker rooms or know what it's like to be their team mate. All I can say is that I don't like the dude and it'll be hard to root for him. Won't be the first or last time that's happened so I'll survive.

Junior is more reviled around here because he "stole" a lot of money, by getting that big contract and then acting like an idiot. I seem to remember that his teammates had also soured to him. I don't know what Peterson's teammates thought of him, exactly, but I never heard anything negative from them.

My opinion is that the league is likely full of less then spectacular human beings, whom we don't hear about because they manage to keep it out of the open. But as long as those guys aren't causing problems in the locker room, they are productive, and you can afford them (which, this should be a relatively cheap deal) then as a team, you can live with them not being the greatest people in their personal lives.

But dang if this won't commit Payton to running the ball, nothing will.

Probably 2 years. First year guaranteed week one of the season. A roster bonus paid the first week of league year 2018. So a one year contract if he makes it through training camp that can become a two year contract if the season works out. No dead money to speak of.

Can I call it? I believe I hit the three! from http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...l-with-saints/

Peterson also gave the full details of the contract as well. The deal is a one-year contract to start with an option for a second year for New Orleans. Peterson will earn $3.5 million in fully guaranteed money this season with a $2.5 million signing bonus and $1 million in guaranteed base salary.

His 2018 option would carry $3.5 million in non-guaranteed money with $2.4 million in roster bonuses. The $3.5 million comes from $1.05 million in base salary, $1.65 million in per game roster bonuses, a $750,000 roster bonus that triggers on the third day of the league year and a $50,000 workout bonus.
