Haven't Mayock and the others been saying that all the QBs were a 2nd round talent at best?

Payton and staff were in a state of disbelief that Lattimore was there at No. 11 after they had him with an average rating of No. 4 overall... The bad thing about when that happens is now you really have to adjust your draft strategy on the fly... Ironic isn't it that rookie GM John Lynch looked like the grizzled veteran last night and got the 49ers the exact player they wanted, an add'l third round pick and a first round pick next year when that draft class is expected to be a special, rare quarterback class... So far it looks like 49ers CEO Jed York got lucky and let the adult handle things in the draft... |

Deshaun Watson and Deshone Kizer were among the more divisive among scouts with a wide variance of grades, some as late as the third round... Personally, I think Watson benefited from having some great receivers who bailed him out as I just don't think he was properly schooled in read progression - he just looked like he really didn't have a plan and would just chuck it out there... I actually expected Davis Webb to sneak into the back of the first round the way things were going... Webb very much reminds me of our very own Drew Brees, in that mould, and I wouldn't be surprised if Payton feels compelled to reach for him... If we pick and Malik McDowell AND Chidobe Awuzie are still there at No. 42, that'd be a real tough call... McDowell has top five talent, is a virtual clone of Cam Jordan, and I'm not sold on this whole cloud of bad attitude thing... Malik McDowell just needs some trusted coaching and guidance and we've got the defensive coaches and vets to do it... Personally, I like Awuzie as much, if not more, than Lattimore and wouldn't have a problem taking Chidobe either... And yes, even though I really, really felt we already have two terrific CBs already on the roster... |

Re: Saints NFL 2017 Draft Days In Game Discussion
Talk of us possibly drafting Kizer, Webb, Kaaya of the kid out of Pittsburgh at #42.
According to ESPN's Mike Triplett, quarterback is "in play" for the Saints on Day 2 of the draft. While Triplett would like to see New Orleans land Tennessee's Joshua Dobbs if he falls to the third round, Miami’s Brad Kaaya, Notre Dame's DeShone Kizer, Pittsburgh’s Nathan Peterman and Cal’s Davis Webb will all be options to consider at No. 42. The Packers are reportedly interested in Kizer at No. 33, but that could be a smokescreen. The Saints are probably wise to start thinking about life after Drew Brees. |
Re: Saints NFL 2017 Draft Days In Game Discussion
Speaking on Friday, Saints coach Sean Payton refused to rule out a trade for Patriots CB Malcolm Butler or Rams CB Trumaine Johnson.
This comes less than 24 hours after the Saints used their No. 11 pick on Marshon Lattimore. Acquiring Butler seemed inevitable for New Orleans at one point, but talks have broken down and Butler hurt his chances of being traded by waiting too long to sign his restricted free agent tender. If the Saints were going to land a top-flight corner via trade, it would have happened by now. Related: Saints Source: EPSN.com |

I just read an article about Reuben Foster. The 49ers called and he told them that the Saints were taking him. That was really the move. We really almost pulled it off. I hate the 49ers. That would have been the perfect night. Marshon Lattimore and Reuben Foster? SMH...

We keep picking players that were rated much higher than where they were picked.
That's how you build a stud roster over time. Never reach for a position. The NFL is loaded with simply adequate players at every position. The draft is about finding that exceptional player, not just some dude that plays at a position of need. |

Re: Saints NFL 2017 Draft Days In Game Discussion
What I need to do is continue my research on combines but I will actually now start breaking down the positional players. In terms of rounds. So I ca summarize our picks and match them up.
|
Re: Saints NFL 2017 Draft Days In Game Discussion
I will be posting no more clips for combines. Finishing where I left off, CB was next
40 time Jalen Myrick, Minnesota 4.28 Myrick the only CB with a 40 time under 4.30 Myrick is still on the board also as he is ranked 16th among CBs. Bench reps Brendon Langley of Lamar had 22 reps Jack Tocho of NCSU had 21 Jeremy Clark of Michigan had 20 Langley was drafted by Denver in the third. Clark is still on the board and Tocho appears to go undrafted. Cone Brian Allen, Utah 6.64 Gareon Conley, OSU 6.68 Howard Wilson, Hou 6.68 These were the only three with times of under 6.70 Conley was drafted in first by Oakland. Allen and Wilson are still on the board. Shuttle Kevin King, Was was only player under 3.90 with a 3.89 Second was Howard Wilson with 3.94, the only other player under 4.00 King was drafted by Green Bay. Vertical Ahkello Witherspoon, Colorado only one with 40+ inches, 40.50, ahead of King and Lattimore(1 and 2 inches back, respectively) Witherspoon was drafted by SF in round 2. Broad Fabian Moreau, UCLA, 135 Lattimore, OSU, 132 Chidobe Awuzie, Col, 132 Shaquill Griffin, UCF 132 Morrow was drafted round 3 by Washington, Awuzie round 2 by Dallas, and Griffin in round 3 by Seattle. So there's so much variety here let's stack up stats Jalen Myrick 13 reps(15th)...below average 7.06 cone(17th).....over .40 behind the top three(average) 4.22 shuttle(11th)..under .30 behind second place(average) 37.50 vertical(6th)..3 inches behind first place(above average) 123 broad(11th).....12 inches behind first(average) Myrick stands out in the 40 time and verticaljump. His bench reps show why he is so quick. He's small, and lacks NFL muscle, likely will be a injury prone player. Langley 4.43 40 time(21st), .15 behind first place(average) 7.06 cone(17th)....tied with Myrick(average) 4.21 shuttle(10th), .1 ahead of Myrick(average) 35.50 vertical(10th), 4 inches behind first(above average), and 2 behind Myrick 123 broad(11th), tied with Myrick and one other person. Langley is only behind Myrick in speed and vertical but right there with him in everything but where he leads him most, in bench reps. 1.Langley 2.Myrick Tocho 4.54 40 time(65th), .22 behind Langley(below average) Cone N/A Shuttle N/A 35 vertical(13th), 5.5 behind leader, 2.5 behind Myrick, .5 behind Langley 124 broad(9th), one ahead of Langley and Myrick, 11 behind leader. Compared to Langley, he trails in the 40 time by a bit, which even hurts him against Myrick, but he's right there in the vertical and broad with them. Myrick's 2.5 might have some advantage, but the bench reps is where he beats Myrick. 1.Langley 2.Tocho 3.Myrick Clark 4.59 40 time(80th), .27 behind Langley, .5 behind Tocho N/A everywhere else His lack of participation will affect him. He's a wild card. Ranked last Allen 4.48 40 time(38th), .6 behind Langley(average) 15 reps(11th), 2 ahead of Myrick 4.34 shuttle(16th), .14 behind Langley(below average) 34.50 vertical(16th), .50 behind Tocho(average-above average) 116 broad(27th), 8 behind Tocho(below average) He's right there in the 40 time with Langley, but is with Myrick in the reps, lacks by .14 in cone, slightly behind Langley in vertical, and behind him by 7 in broad. His reps being too close to Myrick and trailing him everywhere else puts him second to last. 1.Langley 2.Tocho 3.Myrick 4.Allen 5.Clark I will do the rest later. |
