Can never please everyone.

Reckon this kid will be superb for us. Our secondary is pretty ordinary. Lattimore will be a great addition.

Think we should have gone for Barnett.

He plays mean, our D line needs that attitude.

Didn't PJ drop to the 5th for us due to injuries?

Look, I'm gonna pull for the kid,

but we've got a Doc or Docs on the payroll from the 70s when asked for an opinion on medicals that just take a belt of Scotch and tell Payton to just

"rub some dirt on it..."

Thats the minority thinking in here tonight apparently. Guess everyone forgot how sh!t our pass rush has been and how often our dbs are injured. So we draft the most injury prone upside player and most are excited. Im in the twilight zone.

Hate to say it but with our recent luck, had we signed Lester Hayes.... he'd be hurt after second scrimmage of training camp. Just sayin'.

Did Lattimore miss a game last year?

Or did he miss games due to muscle injuries at an age when most men are going through a growth spurt

Spike, PJ looked great against the Raiders...

Then he gets kicked in the head by a horse? That's a freak injury...

Hagan just posted as well, Lattimore has struggled with this since High School...

It's problematic at the least...worrisome for sure...

We're now just gonna have to hope this kid is no longer hamstrung...

I'd rather have a player with a cleaner medical background...

always better clean injury history, agreed. I think his athletic ability and talent made it hard to pass on due to where he dropped. Plus think Benson just added more bikes on the sidelines and he doesnt want them to go to waste

Can we let Lattimore get in some real time practice/contact before the sky starts to fall?? I think it's comical that we got the best corner back in the draft yet many are already complaining.

Saints fill major need with top-rated cornerback Marshon Lattimore

Marshon Lattimore, Roger Goodell

Offensive players unexpectedly flew off the board in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday night. The New Orleans Saints' brass likely threw a party with every name announced.

This left the Saints with too many defensive players from which to choose at No. 11 overall. Craziness.

And the Saints made the smart pick by taking Ohio State cornerback Marshon Lattimore, the consensus top cornerback in this year's draft class.

Drafting Lattimore helps fill a major position of need. This should also end any thought of trading for Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler.

Well done, Saints. Well done.

I understand the injury concerns involving Lattimore. The 6-foot, 193-pound cornerback missed much of his college career with hamstring injuries. That's a scary proposition for any NFL player, much less a cornerback. This also means he was only a full-time starter last year for the Buckeyes.

But this should tell you how good Lattimore was last season to be rated the consensus top cornerback in this draft. He picked off four passes with Ohio State his redshirt sophomore season and broke up nine passes.

In NFL.com's draft evaluation, an AFC pro personnel director described Lattimore this way: "I've studied the top cornerbacks coming out and he's the best I've seen. He's so athletic that he can just post up under the receiver's chin and shadow him all over the field. And he's tough, too. He'll be one of the top cornerbacks pretty quickly."

Given how unbelievably awful the Saints' pass defense has been the past few years, having a chance to select the best cornerback in the draft is a no-brainer.

It still wouldn't stun me in the least if the Saints drafted another cornerback or even traded for a veteran (probably not Butler). Sean Payton said leading up to this draft the Saints needed multiple corners. A healthy Delvin Breaux and P.J. Williams plus Lattimore and another cornerback? The Saints would be in good shape in the secondary.

The Saints' brass had to be doing backflips as Lattimore fell to them. Deservedly so.
