Great, so basically you're saying we draft t-rex?

I was driving all night and just caught up. I'm ok with most of the picks, but one really hurts. I can't believe they took Anzelone over Williams.

Tim Williams will be the next Terrell Suggs and Alex Anzelone will be the next Sedrick Hodge.

Payton is putting all the pieces in place to have his job saved by excuses.

Drafting players that have multiple injuries so everyone can say "we are so unlucky with injuries, it's not Payton's fault" and drafting mismatch players so he can atleast have a great offense to offset the awful defense.

He and the FO are completely out of touch with the NFL, they consistenly preach "best player available," well that's great because we have 100 DB's and 50 linebackers but no true difference maker.

The players were there to be drafted and time after time they bypass a "Derek Barnett" type player and just leave you scratching your head.

Payton would choose Martez Wilson a thousand times over if Kalil Mack was still on the board.

New Orleans Saints: Trey Hendrickson, DE, Florida Atlantic: A- Grade
The Saints' draft thus far has been a roller coaster, and this is another "up." I projected Trey Hendrickson to be chosen early in the third round with a chance to sneak into the second frame. Hendrickson is a terrific athlete who was productive in college, so I thought he would be taken off the board earlier than this. He fills a need for the Saints, so this is a great selection.

Haven't watched the draft this year, but it has been a pleasure reading up on them here. The time difference along with busy days is a no-go on the live following.

I hope they go O-line in the 6th if the value is there at G.

One day maybe a pass rush will be TOP priority.

Oh well, guess we're trying to get PPG average up to 40 so we can get to 9 wins...

Alvin Kamara RB/KR Tennessee 5102 215 4.56 #6 rJr

Not to surprised at the RB though. You realize we don't have the quick back like Reggie Bush or Darrent Sproles for SP. That is a big part of SP's game plan. This guy hopefully fills that role he is that style of a back to compliment Intram and AP.

Now that cooler heads have prevailed, I can honestly say I'm loving our draft. I wasn't thrilled about giving up next year's 2nd rounder but I really like Alvin Kamara so I can live with it. The Anzalone pick wasn't my favorite choice but I'll be optimistic and wait and see how he does.

All in all, I'm pretty darn excited about what we're doing! One more pick today... Maybe we'll find a real diamond in the rough.

New Orleans Saints
Draft picks: Marshon Lattimore (No. 11 overall), Ryan Ramczyk (No. 32 overall), Marcus Williams (No. 42 overall), Alvin Kamara (No. 67 overall), Alex Anzalone (No. 76 overall), Trey Hendrickson (No. 103 overall)
Day 1 grade: A-
Day 2 grade: A-
Overall grade: A-
The skinny: The Saints got a safety to own the back half in Marcus Williams, an athletic and hard-hitting player from Utah, and then they found running back Alvin Kamara waiting for them. They traded away a future second-round pick to get him, though. Not sure I love the future pick trade, though Kamara's a very good player. Alex Anzalone has great potential as a cover linebacker and blitzer, but he needs to stay healthy. New Orleans' pass rush got an upgrade with a hustling, powerful guy in Trey Hendrickson. He was a good value in the third round. Finding a Day 3 quarterback to eventually replace Drew Brees is a must! Lattimore is the best cover man in the draft, and a no-brainer at No. 11. Then, instead of continuing to bolster the defense, they improved the offensive line by picking up-and-coming left tackle Ryan Ramczyk. But should they have picked defensive end Jordan Willis? Maybe linebacker Raekwon McMillan from Ohio State? It will be interesting to see how they continue to build talent on that side of the ball.

Like the secondary picks also seems the DL will be better than assumed otherwise we go DE early. They must feel confident we will get pressure with what we have.

The James White style RB is also smart. Think we get two starters out of this draft. Everyone else PS or cut. Anything more than that and we hit pay dirt.

Yep. Coaches are high on him but the repeated injuries are very concerning for me too. See if he can contribute on special teams and go from there.

Remember former 5 star Gator and Saint Ronald Powell? Just couldn't stay healthy.

Ronald Powell tore his ACL twice his junior year and never was the same again...

Quite a big difference from a kid who had shoulder problems(which haven't been a problem since his junior year) and a broken forearm last year...

Re: 2017 Draft Day 2 - Rounds 2 and 3

Look, we can all put as much shine as we want on it, but the guy has had injuries and they're a concern. That's just simply the truth. You hope they're behind him, but every year Ellerbe misses 8 games. Just the way it is. It is a shame because ellerbe is such a difference maker when in there. Who knows what will become of this kid. Clearly has talent and can play, but yeah injuries are a concern. Have to hope for the best

I'll just leave it here ...

Trey Hendrickson arm length: 32"

Derek Barnett arm length: 32 1/8"

If Trey develops proper technique, he will create space and openings to beat his man on a consistent basis.

Coach em up (see new D line coach Ryan Nielsen).

Some things just don't make sense huh K? Now that I think about it, the tyrannosaurus had short arms too.

Re: 2017 Draft Day 2 - Rounds 2 and 3

Hendrickson is an inch taller, ran .2 secs quicker in the 40, verticled him by 2 inches, and broad jumped him by 5 inches, .22 secs quicker in the 20 yard shuffle, .1 sec slower in the three cone drill,

Lack of technique and playing at a C-USA school seems to be his downfall...

I guarantee next year the Saints will be drafting a DE/PR in the first 2 rounds, because they seal leaks with ducktape

Hey, I love the pick, have been talking about this kid for months, and you can go back to the posts...

I was just asked what was the knock and why he fell to the third I'm just telling you what the scouts were seeing...

In fact, I wanted two (2) DEs in this draft, and Trey was one of the two I wanted...

I ended up buying a round last night instead of going home and drawing a hot Roman bath (I kid, I kid)...

Actually love our front four now only I'd like to have grabbed another Cam Jordan to play behind, and opposite, Cam Jordan...

And then you'd had Okafor and Hendrickson on Ready-5; maybe Zimmer can step up and allow Ony to kick outside?

Bunch of new folks on the coaching staff whose resumes look a lot stouter than duct tape. That's where our hemorrhages have really been happening. We could very well be at the point of having the luxury of shopping for an as yet unneeded successor to Drew in a very good draft class of QBs next year.

I'm just turning a negative into a positive. Trey will benefit by having a good D line coach to help him with his craft. I've already read posters compare Trey to Tull (which is unfair). Tull didn't even have a pass rushing technique. If he had no speed, he wouldn't have won any one on one battles.

I think Mitch or Hagan uploaded a tape on new D line hire Nielsen where he was coaching "one arm is longer than two", which means to engage in with a single arm and body and not allow offensive lineman to get both hands inside the shoulder pad/chest area. Basic technique and a huge part of becoming an effective pass rusher.

Coach em up to their potential & turn a weakness into strength .
