4 yr $100 isn't bad. I'd take it to keep drew in house. 4 more years he breaks every passing record. We will be freeing up about 15 million in dead next year. That still gives us about 20 to mess with next year. Maybe our new coach will bring in some defensive studs

He needs to just give it up here. If he signs then it's just all about the money. There really isn't much left for him here. We can't right this ship soon enough for him to still be any good. If I thought we were going to make huge strides in improvement this year then yea, I could see it but we aren't even close. Like Payton he's just going to ride this cash cow as long as he can.
If Payton were to leave it's a different story but as long as he is here nothing is going to change.
Find a young QB in the first round and build a line around him and give him time for the defense to get good enough to help him out.

Agreed unfortunately, Brees is my favourite player of all time but we need to find a trading partner whilst his value is high.

Fire SP and Loomis, demote or fire Allen
Trade Brees, Vaccaro, Peterson for as many picks as we can get and start the rebuilding process - properly this time.

It's hard for a fanbase to be excited about this news.
Especially without proper staffing and depth at certain positions namely in the defensive backield.

Agreed. We have so many other issues. Since Drew has been here it seems that coach and his little toys on offense have cost us any chance at even an average defense.

Why sign Drew for 25 million a year when that 100 million will make us so much better on defense over the next 4 years. We haven't had any balance between offense and defense.

I'm not buying that they are really going to do something until the offseason - that's how the Saints and Brees' agent have rolled in the past. But if he did sign such a deal like that, it does make things interesting.

Perhaps the new deal does not have a no-trade clause and he could be traded to a team that needs him and they know they have him under contract and he won't walk in summer 2018. Or perhaps this is the organization's way of saying "we don't know where this whole thing is headed, but we are going to make sure Brees survives". Like Jor'El sending baby Kal'el off in a space pod.
