What we learned from Saints' 26-17 win at Green Bay
1 Attachment(s)
The New Orleans Saints defeated the Green Bay Packers 26-17 on Sunday at Lambeau Field. Here's what we learned from the game:
The Saints are in position to go on a run Having won four consecutive games, the Saints are one of if not the hottest teams in the NFL right now. They have a great chance to put some distance between themselves and the rest of the NFC South Division. They return home for a pair of winnable games against the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. http://image.nola.com/home/nola-medi...816a4cb3c7.jpg Drew Brees is human Brees is usually as accurate as any quarterback, but he was uncharacteristically sloppy early in this one, throwing two killer interceptions in Packers territory to thwart potential scoring drives. Brees didn't throw an interception in his first four and a half games. Entering the game, Sean Payton said he was impressed by the Packers' defensive backs, and their coverage skills were apparent Sunday. The Packers can't count The Saints caught Green Bay with only 10 defenders to score their first touchdown. The Packers were scrambling with their substitutions, and New Orleans quickly snapped the ball. Mark Ingram ran right into the void where the Packers were missing a cornerback for an easy 12-yard touchdown run to tie the score at 7. Ken Crawley is going to hear about his missed tackle The second-year cornerback should be ashamed of himself for the weak tackle attempt on Hundley’s second-quarter touchdown run. Crawley might have thought Hundley was going to run out of bounds instead of cutting back into the field of play, but he has to do a better job than the half-hearted attempt he made near the goal line. Rest assured, Saints coaches and teammates will let Crawley have it during film study this week. Brees pulls off his own Lambeau Leap The Saints scored the decisive touchdown when Brees did his patented leap over the top from the 1-yard line on third-and-goal. The TD put New Orleans up 26-17. Brees has done this numerous times over the years, and I’ve never understood why more teams don’t employ a similar strategy. read more on NOLA |

I’m proud they found a way to win a sloppy game. That’s a good sign.

P.J. Shouldve start over Crawley but like a pack of juicy fruit, Payton is not going to change back to. p.j til they lose. I am not saying Crawley is a bad option but he have to become a more solid tackler.

And, have the Saints lost since Crawley started opposite Lattimore? |
Re: What we learned from Saints' 26-17 win at Green Bay
We have a great chance of winning 9 in a row before we play Carolina in Carolina.

Saints defense had two three and outs after the INTs by Brees.
I really like the chemistry of Ingram and Kamara. I hadn't seen the stat sheet but I really like the ground and pound approach. Good teams find ways to win ... Saints played 4 quarters. FWIW, Ted Ginn played well today (minus the muff) & can create separation. Confidence building ... Solid team win. |

Josh Hill did a really good job blocking today.
The O-line is looking better by the week. Kamara keeps being a stud. |
Re: What we learned from Saints' 26-17 win at Green Bay
I hate to use the word "shut down" but Lattimore is as close to it as it gets. Targeted three times and no receptions.

We SHOULD win games against rookie quarterbacks in their first NFL appearance. A hard fought win against a team like that is not exactly cause for a "hair on fire" celebration. Sure, I'm happy for the win. But, did we prove we are playoff material? Nope. When we start winning against team that SHOULD BEAT US ... I would be more convinced. If we beat the Rams, the Bills, the Skins and the Falcons .... then we'll talk. |

I don't think we need to get ahead of ourselves, but we came back from a pretty awful first half by Drew, and are now first in the division in Week 8 - and that's something to celebrate today... |
Re: What we learned from Saints' 26-17 win at Green Bay
-Props to Kelemete. He gets thrown out there at any and every OL position and competes. The Saints are lucky to have him.
-When the defense competes, the Saints have a chance. -The run D is not a strength. -Lattimore for defensive rookie of the year. -Vaccaro has stepped up weathering bad play and trade rumors. - Hand the dang ball off. Ingram/Kamara are the best 1-2 punch going. -Ginn plays better and better. -Good coaching. -Go Patriots. |

It was a good win because; Not all teams play error free games if any, today Drew’s 2 interceptions were nullified by the excellent situational play by the defense. ZERO POINTS off the 2 turnovers. The Saints run game with Ingram an Kamara controlled, I repeat controlled time of possession play count and the clock and allowed the passing game to open up. Bree’s/Team was clutch on 3rd downs in the second half. The defense play was not perfect but they held GB to under 300 yards. On the road ... In Green Bay ... Wet slippery field ... I’m with Guido ... Be Happy I be real Happy !!:bng: |
Re: What we learned from Saints' 26-17 win at Green Bay
We gave up 180 ish yards rushing.
We only gave up 40ish in the 2nd half. We are well coached, and it showed today. It was an AMAZING win from that perspective. |

Random thoughts caused from alcohol toxicity:
I don't think we'd be torched again by Brady and Bradford if we played them a second time. I think we had some significant coverage confusion in the early part of the season and Allen has cleaned it up rather nicely. We shut out a pretty good Dolphins team who is looking like one of the better teams in the AFC right now. One of the most impressive things about this team right now is that we are looking good on the road. Think this has a lot to do with the emergence of Kamara as a part of our great RB tandem, as well as a solid defense. Even in our best years we are usually much better at the dome than on the road. I'm not convinced that will be the case this season, as I think we have a team that is built to win anywhere. The rest of the NFC south is looking quite vulnerable and I'm think we have a pretty decent shot at a first round bye. I think we've looked the best thus far out of all the NFC south teams. The falcons/patriots game tonight will really give us a good indication of what the division looks like.. must watch game imo. |
Re: What we learned from Saints' 26-17 win at Green Bay
Agreed with the above post.
Saints are playing just about as well as any team in the NFL right now. There isn't a team on the schedule that we wouldn't have a bona fide chance of winning. |
