baronm is on target here. I\'m a Tide fan, but had the unenviable experience of having a lot of Auburn fans over for Saturday football, and (at least at the time) they all hated Campbell. Obviously, opinions changed when he started really piling up the W\'s, but most Auburn fans were \"mixed\" at best on their reviews of Campbell before the 2004 season.

Could be that he finally \"got it\" and that he\'s a diamond in the rough, but I remain leary of him. In the end, a second round pick isn\'t necessarily too high for him, but the Saints simply have greater needs. I\'m not satisfied with AB, but I\'m willing to concede that we need to look at the defensive side of the ball first.

Due to a solid (and underestimated) defense, Campbell rarely played from behind in 2004. This is obviously beneficial to ANY QB, especially when he has the luxury of Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams in the backfield to eat the clock. Earlier in his college career, Campbell simply didn\'t show much when playing from behind (as he\'d likely be doing OFTEN with the Saints defense). If nothing else complimentary can be said about AB, it often seems to fall his way when playing from behind. Call it luck, or whatever...

I don\'t really have a fair opinion of A. McPherson (I\'ve already admitted I know very little about him). Would you say he\'s better than Campbell?

Comparing Campbell and McPherson is like comparing Devery and Clayton from last year. It was said Clayton was the more polished but Devery had the better upside. Same can be said with McPherson and Campbell. McPherson has the better upside but at least as of his senior year Campbell is the more polished. Now McPherson has had the benefit of playing professionally in the arena league, but his knock is not being a good pocket passer. Like I said, if McPherson can be had on the 3rd or 4th, then I pass on Campbell in the second as it is a better value.

I think if Campbell\'s exorcised his demons, he\'d be a pretty good fit. He excelled in the play-action game, and assuming a healty Deuce and Smith were in the backfield, he could continue to impress.

Now McPherson has had the benefit of playing professionally in the arena league, but his knock is not being a good pocket passer.
I\'ve always been a sucker for pocket guys (Marino, Montana, etc.), so I\'m already predisposed against somebody who\'s \"not a good pocket passer.\" Then again, I\'ve always been a fan of McNair, Plummer and McNabb, and they certainly don\'t fit the \"pocket passer\" mold. Guess it\'s like some said, it all depends on the system.

We MUST be talking about different guys. LSU game over 50% completions, almost 60, 1 td 0 trunover sin a game the entire offense was held in check.

Against Tenn he completed nearly 70% 2 Tds 1 INT the first time.

Against Arkansas, 3 TDs no INTs 90% completion rate.

Against Georgia, 82% completion rate 1 TD 1 INT

Sec title game, 77% completion rate 3 Tds 1 INT

BCS bowl game. One Td one INT 69% completion rate. Those look like pretty big games to me and he did damn good.
get passt the stats and watch the game footage...
plus the game I was most talking about was the Bama game--and the bowl game where bad decisions by cambell cost us big time in both...overthrowing the ball in the end zone time after time, etc. Most of his stats were put up after ronnie and cadillac came up big...

I have absolutely nothing personal against cambell..just have watched every single auburn game the past 6 years....and the A-games and any practices I could go to....

I could be wrong-but one year players usually haven\'t \"turned it around\" they have played for the paycheck. Now cambell did well at the senior bowl-but was no where near the most dominating QB there...Another thing I\'m worried about is the fact that when cambell started having trouble and got popped he got shell struck--and lost his confidence...but like someone said-he turned it around his senior season..so the question on everyones\'s mind is-was it borgis or was it cambell? I tend to lean toward borgis and the rest of auburn\'s team being absolutely dominating....and I site (the first half of the bama game(the second half he was downright dominating himself and inmpressed the hell out of me), almost loosing to tennessee (esp. during the SEC title game) and the virginia tech game in which he goofed it up in the red zone so much v-tech stayed in the game.

as for MacPherson...Cambell is better than MacPherson--just the simple fact that he didn\'t get kicked off the team ups him in my book..though cambell is no where near the athlete that Macpherson is.
