What I learned:

1. This team has a lot of heart. They could have just rolled over and died but they didn't. Great team win and it'll go a long ways to build character.

2. We have a very good football team that is capable of winning the Super Bowl. We are still lacking a few important pieces though that will be necessary in order for us to reach our peak imo. Finding a great pass rusher needs to be the top priority in the off-season.

3. Marshon Lattimore is incredibly important for this defense. I think he may be even more important than Cam Jordan.

4. Our run game is amazing. We have a good passing offense, but the bread and butter of our offense is definitely our run. I think we made a huge mistake in this game, which is one of the reasons we almost lost. We got behind, and as a result we abandoned the running game. We should have stuck to what has been working all year long. I think we sorta panicked in play-calling. Hopefully Payton realizes that when he reviews the film.

Agreed.

Inside the trenches ... those guys up front are maulers. On the first play in OT, Ingram ran for about 20 yards ... replayed it in slow motion and ANDRUS PEAT blocked his man 5 yards off his spot. Completely wiped him out. I mean he's been doing this all year. Moving men against their will week after week.

Re: What we learned from Saints' comeback win against the Redskins

What'd I learn?

First - Despite diminishing arm strength, Brees can still summon the mustard when he has to win games...

Second - If Washington is stupid enough to let Kirk Cousins hit the open market, we gotta consider that move...

Third - He gets the least credit on the offensive line, but Andrus Peat is the Bull on this line right now...

Fourth - Major's absolutely right, we should've kicked Sterling Moore a Mercedes or another 100K to STFU...

Fifth - Vonn Bell should be quizzed every 10 minutes in film session and every 10 reps in practice to make sure he knows his assignments...

Sixth - Davante Harris, see previous...

Seventh - We are not deep in our secondary and really need Lattimore and Vaccaro back - fast...

Eighth - Colby Fleener has a pulse and Josh Hill needs to get his head outta his arse...

Ninth - Trey Hendrickson is starting to get more snaps opposite Cam Jordan - and that's a good thing...

Tenth - Sean Payton is finally, finally coming to the realization you have to run all four quarters and allow the offensive line to punish the opponents' defensive lines...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

Re: What we learned from Saints' comeback win against the Redskins

I was caught up with things last night and unable to watch. That win was a great sign. Far better than a blowout would be.

The degense had its back to the wall with injuries and when the game was on the line stepped up and got the stops.

Ingram turned into a monster this year. Time and time again just picking up big yards. Kamara is everything Reggie Bush should have been. Difference is he north to south over east to west runs.

Really impressed with the team.
Only seen 10 mins of hightlights so far.

Oh and that last run in OT just shows how important a fully healthy Armstead is.

"Two receivers to the left, Garcon to the right. Manning in the shotgun, puts Collie in motion. Looks in his direction...it's picked off! It's picked off! It's Tracy Porter again! He's runnin' free! He's gonna go all the way!

Re: What we learned from Saints' comeback win against the Redskins

You have to find ways to win the ugly games and we did

Klien is the captain of the Defense we have long missed.
The LB corp does not look to too bad as a group but youth is always welcomed.
Football IQ is the most over looked trait at LB.

I am not as worried about DE as I was in 2016
Cameron Jordan Alex Okafor and Trey Hendrickson have the looks of the solution.

(1) Rankins needs help.
He can not stand up to double teams.
Our other DT can not maintain their gap assignments in one on one blocking
Opposing OL are stilling running free at the second level sealing off LBers
A sand in the pants DT that eats up double and still plays 3 to 5 yards behind the line and still excels against the run, is a huge void on the DL. Prefer a proven young veteran to free up Rankins, Jordan and keep the LB cleans.

DaQuan Jones (25) DT/DE Titians 6036 322 5.35 #90 R4 2014 - $2/4 M

(2) KV is a unique player and one that is hard to replace.
Bell is a vastly inferior version of KV
Saints have a huge need for a modern day SS that can help Williams in the back end.

-Can Drew and the front office pull a wabbit from the hat for a proven vet?
Morgan Burnett SS/FS/CB Packers 6013 209 4.51 Green Bay 4/$32M
-Up and coming?
Eric Reid FS/SS San Fransisco 6012 213 4.53 Rd 1 2013 4 / $32M
-Draft?
Ronnie Harrison SS/OLB Alabama 6011 214 4.54 #15 Jr

(3) With Lattimore out, it exposed how truly shallow the CB group is.
Many have dismissed the injury to Breaux and the impact to the CB unit. Some have forgotten how good he is.
We are 3 deep at CB (Breaux Lattimore Crawley) and the rest are on the bubble

Draft/FA at least 4 new faces at CB
-Can Drew and the front office pull a wabbit from the hat?
Kyle Fuller CB Bears 5116 190 4.40 1st Round 2014 - $8/10 M
- Draft? One of Bamas starting 3 would help
Anthony Averett, CB/FS/WR Alabama 5115 185 4.43 #28 rSr
Levi Wallace CB/FS Alanama 5111 185 4.45 #39 Sr
Tony Brown CB/FS/SS Alabama 5116 198 4.38 #2 Sr

Conclusion?

DaQuan Jones would make the front 7 hum

Morgan Burnett would solidify the secondary much like Darren Sharper did for the saints.

Draft Ronnie Harrison to learn from Burnett how to become a modern day SS in the NFL. Harrison plays the slot extremely well already. Harrison's skill set is much the same as Burnett. Both can play multiply rolls in the secondary. Instant upgrade across the board.

We are close but as this game showed we still have a way to go.

"We may have lost the game, but you'll be hurting tomorrow." Doug Atkins

Re: What we learned from Saints' comeback win against the Redskins

-Great 8 game run. Mostly earned.
-Snead, Fleener, and Lewis made plays. Huge.
-Took a good team's best and got the W.
-There's nobody beasting like Ingram in the NFL.
-Kamara was hit in the mouth for the first time and stood tall. Special player.
-Teo' was a great signing.
-The OLine got scuffed up yesterday but made plays when it counted.
-Brees got scuffed up yesterday but made plays when it counted.
-The defense got scuffed up yesterday.
-It doesn't get easier in the weeks to come.

Quality win.

Worried about Alex Okafor.

Any news on him?
