OK let's see the current standings: Team Record Conference Eagles 11-2 9-1 Vikings 10-3 8-2 Rams 9-4 6-4 Saints 9-4 7-3 So down the stretch the Eagles go 1-2, Vikings 2-1, Rams 3-0, Saints 3-0 with each winning their division with the final records of: Team Record Conference Eagles 12-4 9-3 * Vikings 12-4 9-3 ** Rams 12-4 8-4 Saints 12-4 9-3 * Eagles go 0-2 in remaining 2 NFC games with Giants and Cowboys. Otherwise they win the #1 outright. ** Vikings go 1-1 in remaining 2 NFC games with Packers and Bears. Otherwise they win the #1 outright. So the first tiebreaker is head to head. No team beat each of the others, and no team lost to all of the others. So it's a wash. The second tiebreaker is conference record. The Rams are 8-4 in conference as opposed to the others at 9-3. They are elimiinated, thereby getting the 4th seed. The remaining three are back to the top. head to head is skipped as above, conference record is tied. Next, and now crucial is common games (minimum of 4 games each team). At the end the Eagles, Vikings, and Saints have the Rams, Bears, Panthers, and Redskins would result in records of 5-0 for the Eagles, 4-1 for the Vikings (loss to Panthers today), and 4-1 for the Saints (loss to Rams last week). Therefore the Eagles are awarded the top seed and the Vikings and Saints are thrown back in to the tiebreaker mixer. The Vikings win the head to head with the Saints and therefore get the second seed. So the seedings are: Seed Team Record Conference 1 Eagles 12-4 9-3 2 Vikings 12-4 9-3 3 Saints 12-4 9-3 4 Rams 12-4 8-4 The Eagles 5-0 in common games is in the bank. The Saints 4-1 is too. The Vikings have the Bears left. Win or lose they cannot match the Eagles 5-0 record. So in tied situations the Eagles come out on top of the other 3 because for common games for the Vikings and Saints and a win over the Rams. The Vikings beat both the Saints and the Rams, so comes out on top in any tiebreaker involving only the three either individually or collectively. So as you can see, each of the Vikings, Rams, and Saints were all rooting against Philly today. Unfortunately all were disappointed. In fact the above is the only tiebreaker that now helps the Saints at all with the current group of division leaders as it's the only one that gets the Saints the third seed. The better path to the third seed is Seattle beating the Rams next week putting them in the division lead in the West. First off that would put all of the West at least a game behind the Saints presuming that the Saints win out. In terms of any ties, the Saints holds the tiebreaker over Seattle the common opponents tiebreaker (Packers, FailClowns, Rams, Redskins) 3-2 (FailClowns, Rams losses) vs 2-3 (Packers, FailClowns,Redskins losses) operating on the presumption we take out the FailClowns on Christmas Eve. Super Bowl Championships: New Orleans Saints:1, Carolina:0, Atlanta Chokers: STILL ZERO
Only Atlanta choked in an unchokable situation... Life is definitely good. |
