I say NEVER put 8 in the box. It just limits our options. Stretch teams thin.
Much easier for Ingram and/or AK to stick their head in a gap an get 2 for a 1st down.
Short yardage situations we should let Brees decide how he wants to handle it.
Spread the field and let Drew pick the poison.
Also easier to catch somebody sleeping, or cheating or over matched.

I just hope Mr. Payton stays with the running game and not fall back into pass happy old habits.

That logic makes no sense though. Anytime you don't pick up 10 yards on first down it will always be second down. If you do pick up 10 yards it is just first down again and you start the process all over again. 2nd and short(and even 3rd and short) are more favorable down and distances statistically than 1st and 10. 2nd and short is the one time where you can feel comfortable in picking up the first down and not have the fear of the next down being 4th down. As a result the scenario should offer the best situation in order to maximize yardage over just picking up the first down.

If you run the ball on 2nd and short.. convert the first down, then you'd have to pick up enough yards again on first down to put yourself in an equally favorable position.
