Resign Okafor, Brees, LeRibeus, not sure about Kenny

I hope we re-sign Kelemete but I think he gets a better offer from someone else.

Brees, Okafor, and Line are my top options. I like Edebali and he's cheap too. Daniel will likely be back as well.

I'd hate to lose Kelemente' but I'm with you. I think he may get O line starter type money someplace else. Extremely versatile player.

And yes to Brees & Okafor.

If that happens then it would definitely shift my focus in the 1st round of the draft to someone like C/G Billy Price who could be that utility back-up in his rookie year before eventually taking over for Unger.

Re: 2018 Saints FA - Who do we sign?

Pretty much everyone below Kelemete on that list is replaceable, and not really a threat to leave.

I would like to keep Johnson- he played great. I also think we need to hold onto Leribeus- pretty much zero depth on OL
Signing Edabali / Okafor might change our draft strategy.

Vaccaro will probably get overpaid elsewhere.

Re: 2018 Saints FA - Who do we sign?

Keep an eye on these guys --->Nigel Bradham (Eagle OLB), Ziggy Ansah, Cameron Brate & a true #2 slot WR.

Select the best available player in the draft. This team is only a few pieces away from getting to the Bowl.

Okafor
Kelemete (has done everything he’s been asked to do and still has a ceiling.

Line (did just fine and he’s young.$

Vacarro (we got worse when he went out. He can make some WTF moments but he’s a big reason why Lattimore and Crawly did well.)

I love Sterling Moore but if we make a move to upgrade Crawly then Crawly is an awesome backup. I trust Moore more than Breaux.

That’s about it.

They could go after JG and Bobby Wagner. Vast improvement on both sides of the ball in 2 signings.

I say resign them all and see who improves and cut the ones that we can absolutely replace with better talent but not spend an arm an a leg or 2 legs, whatever! We are not far off from going to the SB again. We should've beat the Vikings and would've had a better chance to beat Philly. We would've had a chip on our shoulder for the Patriots.

Re: 2018 Saints FA - Who do we sign?

I say we sign Kelemete long term and deal Armstead somehow. Kelemete is going to start somewhere and it might as well be us. He has done nothing but step up when called upon without much, if any drop off. He’s also still got an upside. Keep him in there at one position and he will ball. Consistency. Get some solid depth where you can and call it a day.
He’s always plugged in somewhere on the line when Armstead is out half the year anyway.

Re: 2018 Saints FA - Who do we sign?

Drew Brees, Senio Kelemete, Zach Line, Mike Mauti, and Gerald Hodges are the guys I'd like to see re-signed...

Wouldn't get into a rush for Okafor with that achilles injury; he's had trouble staying healthy his whole career...

If LG Andrew Norwell and/or DE Demarcus Lawrence somehow hit the open market - they'd be the big splash guys...

If he'd come back I'd sign Jimmy Graham to upgrade Colby Fleener with the same salary slot, costs...

I'd really like to see us sign a true Mike LBer, and there are three guys I'm scouting...

One, Avery Williamson is only 25 yo, played at Kentucky, had a PFF grade of 86 for the Tennessee Titans defense...

Two, intriguing is former Saint Willie Whitehead's nephew, Tahir Whitehead, a FA Mike LBer who broke out with Detroit...

Three, I've really like the versatility of Anthony Hitchens, who I'd compare to and a younger upgrade of Robertson...

Don't be surprised if we made a run at another CB and this year's names are playmaking Kyle Fuller or taller Rashaan Melvin...

Not sure Saints will tender a high enough contract to Delvin Breaux, a RFA, and we could lose him without compensation...

Of course we could always sign another Vikings RB, Jerrick McKinnon, and figure how three running backs would eat...

Why would you commit serious money to WRs when you still have holes on the offensive line, defensive front seven?

We focused on running the football and defense and it got us back in the playoffs and off the 7-9 skid...

We still were among the league elite in passing with the wide receivers we have - that wasn't our problem...

Our problem was we were starting our No. 5 and No. 6 LBer with a late season street FA in the playoffs...

Not to mention we had little depth along the offensive line and defensive line to sustain us for a deep playoff run...

And did we learn nothing from the Junior Galette contract that we want the juvenile antics of Sheldon Richardson?

I'd sign Trent Murphy as a rotational guy - if he's affordable; and we have holes at SS...

It probably doesn't make a lot of financial sense but I completely understand the desire for a WR. Besides Thomas, there didn't seem to be a clutch 3rd down guy. And the Saints weren't good on 3rd down. There were quite a few games where it seemed the offense struggled because they couldn't sustain drives. I think we all expected Snead to be that guy but he disappeared.

And I'd say the depth at WR is as big a concern as any other unit on the team. Could you imagine what the passing game would be like if Thomas went down early in the season? Who'd step up? Could Ginn be a true number one? He averaged less than 3 1/2 catches per game, Coleman less than 1 1/2.

I would be thrilled if we picked up a big name Linebacker or D lineman, but if we couldn't get a defensive stud, I'd also be thrilled with a Jarvis Landry, Marques Lee or Allen Robinson.

saintsfan1976 01-28-2018 05:46 PM

Re: 2018 Saints FA - Who do we sign?

Michael Thomas can't continue to do it all. I would invest in either WR or TE this season.

Fleener's gone. We'll lose either Coleman or Snead.

K Major 01-28-2018 07:15 PM

Re: 2018 Saints FA - Who do we sign?

Saints desperately need a TE ... probably more so than a J Landry.

triman 01-28-2018 10:04 PM

Re: 2018 Saints FA - Who do we sign?

I agree that we need a upgrade at LB and WR is a lower priority but a need all the same. Landry would be a good fit IMHO. TE was missing in our offense and a key contributor to our third down woes as was Snead disappearing! Coleman and Ginn are not capable of carrying out offense if Thomas is injured. Trey Burton is a young ascending player that has the misfortune of playing on a team that has a another TE that is a star. He just might be convinced to join a team that has shot at a SB ring and a hall of fame QB where he could be the #1 TE.
Nigel Bradham is a three down LB that excellent at coverage.
Burnett or Joyner would give us an elite S to replace Vaccaro and provide veteran influence on our young DBs
Richardson is a difference maker in an area of need be can play either DE or DT and provide a pass rush that would make this team dangerous !
Murphy is coming off injury and wouldn't cost as much as Ansah .
This team needs another difference maker on Defense!

voodooido 01-29-2018 01:14 AM

Re: 2018 Saints FA - Who do we sign?

Saints defense is a cb and a healthy de away from being dominant. Shore that up in FA and draft the bpa. I think Hill can replace fleener which shouldn’t be hard to do. but I agree we need a couple wr’s. Snead and Coleman are all but out the door. Need a slot something bad. Another lance Moore.

I think the only free agents I would like to bring in are SS Eric Reid and DT DaQuan Jones.

Eric Reid is great but Jaquiski Tartt really emerged for the 49ers so Reid is likely to move on.

DaQuan Jones is a mammoth at 6’4”, 320 lbs with dominant run-stuffing ability and good pass rush skills.

Restricted free agent though... We’d have to offer pretty good money that Tampa wouldn’t be willing to match. Probably not too hard because the investment they’ve made in OJ Howard.

but, they def aren't going to tender him 1st round, and 2nd would cost them $2.02 million.
Brate wasn't drafted, so if they offer the lowest tender and we top it, we wouldn't lose a pick

andohbytheway, he was on our PS in '15 for a week

If we sign a Tight End, I suspect it'll be to bring Jimmy Graham back into the fold...

Tiger-Saints are probably hoping for this one; but I have doubts as Thomas will need to be extended in just a couple of seasons...

I won't rule it out but the price would have to be right on Jimmy Dickens. The Saints desperately need a 3rd down threat and red zone weapon. Personally, I'd like to target one in the upcoming draft.
