I wish I could like that quote twice!

Drew is going to set records that will be almost impossible to beat. He won't leave New Orleans for money. Right now he is focused on chasing titles and getting another Lombardi.

I hope you are right RSII.....I want to think that as well, but something tells me that money will talk, especially as this will likely be his last NFL contract. I love the guy, but Drew is all about Drew.

I have pointed this out before, but Brees is at a point in his career where his "brand" is far more lucrative than his NFL paycheck. His brand is tied to New Orleans. He stands to lose far more than an extra five or six million a year by abandoning the Saints. Yes, you are correct, money does talk and that is exactly why he will never leave The Saints or New Orleans. Brees makes more from his endorsements, commercials and business ventures than he does playing football. That doesn't mean he won't be trying to get as much as he can, but it will only be with the Saints.

And I seriously doubt this will be Brees' last contract. I expect a series of essentially one year extensions for the remainder of his career.

I believe that too. He has earned somewhere between $150-200M during his career in just salaries. Then add endorsements and commercials and such and thats probably another $50M. He seems to be managing his finances in a smart way so he has no need to ever worry about money for his or his children or great great great grandchildren ever again.

And sure i think we should pay him a decent salary but I don't think being the highest paid whatever is his main focus right now.

I'll guarantee you he is making more outside of football than in annually. He is involved in numerous successful business ventures on top of everything else.

What business ventures? Jimmy Johns?
Restaurants are horrible investment businesses. If you own a couple of them you may be able to make a nice living at about 200k a year but that’s only if you are very hands on. It’s not a type of business where you can just have someone else handle and make any money. He has those because he likes the food and wanted to bring it to New Orleans. It’s just fun for him. Probably doesn’t generate any real revenue. Not anything meaningful to him anyway.
I didn’t know we were privy to any other investments he may have.
I always hear about him and politics. He’s stated interest in it but hasn’t said anything about it being on a local level.

In addition to owning several Jimmy John's, Brees is also co-owner of the Walk-on restaurant chain. He is also sole owner of the lifestyle apparel company, NINE. He is also in partnership with the owner of Dunkin Donuts on 69 stores opening in New Orleans, Shreveport, Baton Rouge, Monroe and Alexandria. He is also a partner in Happy's Irish Pub. There are other ventures, as well.

He is adding more to his portfolio each off-season.

Not necessarily. If it allows you to hold on to more of your wealth in lieu of paying taxes to the Beltway Boys, makes a modest profit, then you can later sell when the Socialist Democrats aren't in power in vampire-mode...

Look Drew Brees' previous contract, plus the cache he has with his NFL star power allowed him into the next club level where he can visit with guys like Berkshire Hathaway's Warren Buffet...

The criticism I have right now for the Brees contract is that the Mickster should have seen Brees passing numbers more than a year ago and had foresight to make sure Brees was under contract when he passed Manning...

That would also have allowed the Saints to then take those cap savings and gotten us an elite Nose Tackle, taken Zeitler over Warford and/or another high-level LBer...
